A friend of mine has ordered from Zenni Optical several times, and was very happy with their work.

We have ordered from them three times and are pleased with both quality and customer service. Can't beat the price! as long as you can wait 4-6 weeks to get them, you are golden. Especially with kids (who lose/break glasses) and with fashion conscious women(and men) who want different frames to match different outfits, styles, or moods.

Price is unbeatable. My progressive bifocals were under $50. All frames we have bought so far have lasted as well as anyone could ask, even the kid frames. And when you are paying $10-$20 for a pair of kids glasses, it is easier to accept that kids break things (or that kids' things break) than when you are paying $100.

The biggest problem we encountered was getting our optometrist to release the prescription information to us, because he would lose our business.

If that was my optometrist, I would find a new one anyway. There may even be regulations that would prohibit a medical professional from keeping your information from you.

By the way, the one thing you need that is not on a standard prescription is "PD" or pupilllary distance. It is a measurement of the distance between the pupils. Any reputable optometrist or optician (not HouTex's though, lol) will readily give that to you, or you can measure yourself. More info from Zenni: http://zennioptical.com/cart/html/pd.html
