Had not noticed it too much, until of course you point it out, Yan. Now it is painful.

I can read the word "free" just fine without every letter being capitalized.

I think its just a silly ploy to try and squeeze out an accidental up vote or two.

I don't see a reason to capitalize "FREE" or any other part of the deal title. If anything, it gives the members doing so an unfair advantage.

I do it on my own grocery list. I do it like FREE so that it will jump out at me when I am shopping and so I don't forget it. If I get frazzeled! I figure at least I will still end up with something free even if I can't find any thing else.

You don't need to be creative to do it. Sounds more like an arms race to me, not marketing. Why not capitalize the entire title? Wink

We should be allowed to capitalize the word "DOOM" though, just because its the word "DOOM".

Its needs to be placed in bold too for ultimate DOOM emphasis. Big Grin

I was not capitalized or placed in bold for ultimate "DOOM" emphasis.

Sorry, but the bar got raised 72 hours ago, and you did not meet it. Smile

    Why capitalize "FREE"?

Duh. Why does gas cost $2.49 and 9/10 of a cent?

Why does stuff on tv cost $19.99?

Why are special APR deals always 5.9%?

This deal uses 'free' twice, once capitalized and once not!

I feel we need to instate some rule to prevent the abuse...

How 'bout changing the rules for the $5 bonus prize? Currently the only people who win are the ones who flood buxr w/every and any deal they could possibly find. Or at least switch it up every once in a while. What happened to "editors pick"?

How about changing it but not doing away with it. Maybe something along the lines of most votes on 1st 5 deals submitted. Or just most votes on up to 5 deals per day.

Doing the 1st 5 submitted would require a little more research in making sure your best 5 are the 1st ones you submit.

That seems a little convoluted for Admin to deal with.

I have another suggestion, which I think is better, if its going to be kept at all.

How about the Daily Win with the most votes gets it, and in cases of a tie, it is shifted to the member with the most votes total.

Although I'd rather see it abandoned all together, at least that way a more diverse crowd of members would get the award. It would still maintain some encouragement to submit multiple deals, but not bury the site under bunches of average offers.

I like your idea in theory, but the reality is we need all kinds of deals. One good reason is that visitors often come to our site looking for a specific deal or coupon from a store they like to shop at. This might not be the hottest deal on the web, but at least they are able to find something for their needs.

Also, not everyone who submits 20 deals a day wins the $5 bonus. Talking to Yan on the phone, he mentioned a user that submitted 20 deals just the other day and did not win the daily contest, and therefore was not eligible for the bonus prize.

Perhaps we should do more "editors choice" rewards like Steve suggested to spread the love around to more contributors.

Thanks for the suggestions, would love to hear more ideas.

There's always room for editors' choice. You guys should be able to reward any deal that you think deserves it. With good reason or just for the randomness of it all.

Any word on changing the rules for the bonus prize? I really think quality should be more important than quantity.

Steve, I agree with your point that quality should be more important than quantity however on a slow day like today we are really glad we have the bonus rule. It encourages and gives incentive to members to submit more deals.

Today, for example, midget shared 15 deals and got 103 votes. The closest runner ups were HouTex (38 votes / 3 deals) and MrCheap (31 votes / 3 deals).

Please note that if midget didn't get the daily prize then somebody else would get the bonus award. This sort of takes care of the "quality first" rule since you have to score the quality prize (daily) in order to get the quantity bonus.

You're exactly right. It's really fortunate that some people can be active on the slow days. I'll try to do my part and post some more but when you got three kids 9 and under, it becomes a bit harder.

I hope no one is mad at me cause I have a lot of time to post deals and it seems I've been lucky this month and I am grateful for all of you that have voted on my deals.

It's harder to find deals on the weekends than on the weekdays though.

I understand about the kids though. When my son was younger I spent more time with him than anything but now he's almost grown and teens don't have time for parents anymore Sad

Just for boredom purposes I decided to go back and see who has been winning all the $5 bonuses. Before I went back and checked the daily winner logs it seemed off the top of my head that Midget is winning almost all of them this month, and HouTex did the same last month.

I went back 60 days and here is what I came up with.
    Midget - 22
    HouText - 16
    WhattaDealBlog - 7
    Steve_05 - 4
    Siggy38 - 3
And no one else with more then 1.

So Midget won the award roughly 37% of the time in the last 60 days, that's a little more then once every 3 days.

HouTex won the award rough 27% of the time during that period, or about once every 4 days.

And I as was 3rd during that period I won roughly 12% of the time, or about once every 9 days.

This is not meant to be negative or an attack against those who when often. Simply bored, somewhat interested in statistics and thought I would provide some hard numbers to assist in the debate.

Posted this in its own thread, in which to move the debate over the subject to. I was going to edit my post to point to the new thread but was to slow and didn't do it in time to be able to edit my above post out of here.
