When does one use "Nationwide" and when "select states or cities?" Permalink

submitted 277 days ago by equipurple in "Buxr Website / Contests"
I posted two deals, one for Value City Furniture and one for LongHorn Steak House.
http://www.buxr.com/deal/29-99.....ouse_90359
http://www.buxr.com/deal/free-.....ture_90338

Value City is in 17 states
LongHorn in 33

HouTex, bless his soul, edited both to include the list of states they exist in. I think that was overkill on LongHorn, and probably on Value City as well. I could not put my mouse on the information for the then-new geography addition to the submission process. Does Nationwide truly mean only all 50 states?

Thanks

There is a trick HouTex knows and you don't. Those states can be assigned for most limited area deals with just one mouse click during deal submission. I challenge you to find it. Mr Green

Could it be the "Store Area" button on submission form "2. The Details?"

Why do you think it's "overkill" to be accurate? Just curious.

Why? Because I'm curious, or because I'm a perfectionist? Mr Green Must be my type A personality! Roll Eyes

Look at the deal for LongHorn.

To MY MIND, the listing of so many states is clutter and noise on the page. I understand LongHorn to be a "National" chain. Those in the western third of the country, perhaps not so, but if they were interested in the deal, they could click on the store locator so conveniently added in the comment section.

Now look at another deal in the food category for AMC Theatres http://www.buxr.com/deal/amc-t.....1/tag/Food

No listing of states. I still understand AMC Theates to be a "National" chain. Even without a conveniently listed locator, I could still find one nearby. Yet AMC, as it turns out, is only in 31 states.

When looking at a truly regional chain (Papa Ginos, for instance, in MA, CT, RI, NH, ME only), I can see listing 5 states. 33 states seems adds too much noise for the level of accuracy achieved.

Perfectionism, perhaps, but at the a cost.

I am sure the presentation can be improved. This doesn't mean however that the feature is an overkill or useless. It filters out local deals for those not interested in them, which I think can be very helpful.

Here are some ways to make the limited availability deals look better:
      1. Use abbreviations instead of full state names
      2. When it is more than 25 states, say smth like: Available Nationwide except this states: ...
      3. Just post "Limited Availability" and offer states in a pop-up box on mouse over or click

Maybe have a selection for a geographic specific area, i.e."primarily northern states" or "southern region". I do think it is appropriate to include the area but I do agree it looks a bit messy in the deal post.

How about mini icons of the US with colored areas?
