What Underwear Sales Tell You About the Economy (Poll)

submitted on February 18, 2011 by DebsFreebies in "Member's Lounge"
Forget about those dust-dry leading economic indicators. If you want to know what’s happening with the economy, take a peek at men’s boxer shorts and divorce filings (which are not necessarily related).

An interesting read on some weird economic indicators, ferreted out by Kiplinger.com.

I gauge the economy by the drive-thru line at my local Starbucks. I rarely go through the line any more these days but I can always look and see.

I suppose that as the economy gets better, more folks are willing to let go of some money for coffee. Too expensive for me...over the course of a year, one could save enough to buy a used car! Mr Green

I noticed an increase in car sales first, then desserts and appetizers.
Odd that those items rebound faster than underwear sales. Eeek

Who cares about stained and/or holey underwear when you can eat yummy food and drive cars? Lol, just hopefully people aren't going on dates with their yucky underwear and trying to seem rich by buying the extra meal courses. They will eventually get caught and that might not be so pleasant. Cool

The oddest thing that increased during a tough economy was movie attendance.
      A little escapism, I guess.

Something I noticed recently was an increase in freight train traffic, so I guess that means more products are being ordered by vendors who are increasing stock. Cool During the decline, the lack of sales affected so many more people down the supply chain, putting them out of work and in turn hurting the local businesses that support them. It's a domino effect both ways - as we recover, so can all those people.

Hmmm....don't you remember the mother's famous saying? Never go out without clean underwear, you never know what will happen. Mr Green
