What's your weird Town name? (spinoff from OrangeArrow's discussion post)

submitted on June 14, 2010 by DebsFreebies in "Member's Lounge"
We know there are weird street names but what about town names? If it is a street name, it affects a few people. If it is a town name, it affects a lot of people.

How about these?

Bigfoot, Texas, USA
Bonanza, Colorado, USA
Celebration, FL, USA
Chicken, Alaska, USA
Climax, Michigan, USA
Cut and Shoot, Texas, USA
Deadhorse, Alaska, USA
Ding D***, Texas, USA
Earth, Texas, USA
Egypt, Texas, USA

I don't live there, but I know of a Santa Claus, Indiana. There's a theme park there named Holiday World/Spashin Safari.

There is a Big Bone Lick state park in KY. And just in case you are curios on Google http://www.google.com/search?q.....=firefox-a

It shows a map of course, its at the intersection of Big Bone road and Beaver road. I kid you not!

Ok, this one is for me -- problem is you'll definitely know the part of the country I'm from after this -- ever heard of Blue Ball, Bird in Hand, Intercourse, Paradise actually there is a poem that goes with the town names, I'm sure you can figure enough of that out on your own. These towns are all in PA very close together.

My mother was born in Dog Walk, Illinois.
The name of the town was changed in 1976 to either Whiteash or Cedar Grove, Illinois. I'll have to look it up, as I don't remember which.

So many odd names! Makes one wonder what they were thinking of when they named the town....one of my favorite is (and I've been there) is Slapout, Alabama.
