what is a branded coupon?

submitted on March 20, 2009 by overaged in "Coupons / Coupon Codes"
I just had one of my items expired for use of a branded coupon. Don't even know what that is...

A coupon that a different deal site uses to promote themselves. Ex: xpbargains123, technews123

ok, so i just went back and looked where i got that coupon from and it was the xpbargains site. now i see the self promotion.

But what if someone on another site posted the same code to get the discount how would i know this was a branded coupon if i had never heard of xpbargains?

You can always Google it and see if the deal site pops up.

Or we could have a running list of all the deal sites that issue branded coupons...

that would be nice yan. cause googling every promo code to see if it was branded would take up a lot of time.

Also if you would print up a list of all sites that are banned from here would be good too.

That list is constantly growing, but I guess we could give access to it for the members. I don't see a problem with that. I can see where it could be beneficial for Buxr: members themselves could suggest possible "bad" sites, be that a competitor or scam

this may seem like a retarded question but why is using a branded coupon bad for the consumer? that's who we're targeting right?

If not for that xp code i would be paying more for that item especially if no one else was offering a coupon for that item.

Personally I don't care much about implied advertising. It is too miniscule to be a real issue for Buxr. The bigger problem is that (1) some deal sites operators consider this to be 'stealing' since these coupons are created for exclusive distribution by these deal sites, (2) certain merchants don't allow publishing coupons they target for distribution by the affiliated websites of their choice
