What features would you like to see on Buxr?

submitted 89 days ago by MikeG
OK, as most of you can see, we are constantly adding new features and functionality to Buxr. Most of the features come from late night brainstorming with Yan and some of the comments we see in the deal postings.

Now that we have a forum for this, I would love to hear some of your ideas! Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

I hate to say this, but sometimes I wish we had a comment filter that we could switch on, like what you see in chat rooms. This way if you wanted to ignore somebody you could. Sometime members get a little upset (Its bound to happen.), and I'd like to be able to switch them off for a day or two until they cool back down to normal. The bad vibes can really ruin the fun for that day sometimes.
Is that a bad thought to have?

Interesting idea. We were discussing a way to vote down comments so they are hidden when they a reach a certain threshold. You could still see them if you choose to (like Digg and YouTube).
I've actually switched off the news because I can't take any more negative news about the economy

I think it would be nice if you could "PM" people on the forums, if you wanted to say something to someone, without everyone seeing it. But of course the admins could see everyones.

I would be weary of being able to PM members, as it could allow members to conspire with each other in unfavorable ways. I much prefer everything being out in the open for all to see.

I think that's why we have it for a future release. Even if we were able to read it, we wouldn't want to sift through messages looking for conspiring members.

True, though there are times where it should be done if there are reports of harassment, etc.

I would like to see the time limit expanded by 30sec for grammar and spelling reasons, but allowing posts to be continually edited could allow a user to go back and change something they said previously that had effects.
You could end up with a scenario with "I never said that.", and then the user goes back to edit that comment to make it appear that way.
A time extension yes, but infinite no.

I would love to have a way to filter deals by price. I use Buxr for opportunistic bargain shopping, as probably many do, and those 50" LCD TV deals just add unnecessary noise - stuff I have to skim through

BBCode support. Sure, we can do some HTML in posts, but it's hard to know what we can or cannot do. A little BBCode and a small help javascript popup to accompany it would be quite awesome.

I would have to say no for the exact reasoning that TheBest mentioned. Although right now I don't think its happening other than perhaps with refereed people, and only then on rare occasion. However, I think that might open the door to the possibly of it occurring on a larger more frequent scale.
However, once the site become more popular and there are many more people voting and participating, then I would be far more inclined to accept the idea, simply because sheer numbers could overrule any colluding between members.

I think IF you want people to do the "Refer a Friend" contest you should
    1. make a minimum of 3 friends that have to be refereed
    2. put the money back to $150
Otherwise, 5 friends for $50 is like $10 per friend. Just like winning a daily deal. And submitting deals is much less hassle than having to get your friends to join BuxR!

You could try submitting more often then. I think what the mods are trying to get at is that this is a shopping site, and not a "who has the most" friends site. We have Facebook and MySpace in existence for that. Although, at the same time I think they want people to still have the ability to gain something for spreading the word. Additionally, they have stated themselves that the "Refer a Friend Contest" has not gone over as well as they hoped, even when the requirements were lower and the incentive was higher. Anyway, that is my take on the whole thing.

      True and false.

True - the friends contest is secondary. While we think it is VERY critical to bring more members on board to balance out our contests, the "best deal" contest is still more important to us since this is a deals site after all.

False - I hope Buxr old-timers have learned by now that if we say it we mean it. If Bionicle won the friends contest "fair and square" he would have got the price no question asked. We take attempts to game our contest VERY seriously and will ban anyone we find doing so.

I just wanted to add that when in doubt, we usually give the member the benefit of the doubt.
Also to echo what Solstice said, we are happy to give away prizes, but ultimately we are trying to build a real shopping community here. I know it's easy to confuse the purpose of this site (sometimes even Yan and I get carried away with contest), but it's all about sharing hot deals and making friends.

    Hello,
I have a couple of suggestions:
    1. In addition to product, coupon and sale, there should be a rebate choice. It gets tricky when there is an original price, sale price, and price after rebate vs. no sale price (which must be lower than the original price) and then price after rebate.
    2. The next to last page in the deal submission process should leave in “use coupon code” so we don’t have to retype it every time when entering a coupon code. Maybe a dropdown?
    3. There is a need for more deal categories and “tags” and/or the ability to add more than a limited number to each deal.

Could you make it so that every holiday (Including "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday") are double the prize on all of the daily deals? So instead of winning $10 for the deal of the day, you win twenty. It would also draw more people here to do their holiday shopping and submissions.

Oh, one more thing, can you make a separate contest for people who's ranks are "journeyman" or lower? like $50 for first place, $30 for second, and $20 for third. Then you could have an "expert" or higher contest. Some of the older members (Solstice, TheBest, steve_05 and others) are just way too good at finding deals for the lower ranked people (like me) to be able compete with them!
