What do you think about Buxr chat?

submitted on January 23, 2009 by YanBz in "Buxr Website / Contests"
We had our weekly brainstorming session last night with Mike and one of the ideas that came out was adding a chat page (and a front page module) for the members to share quick notes or announcements.

In the future we also want to add streaming video and run weekly live sessions where me or Mike (or both of us) go online and talk about some of the hot deals we had in the past week and you can chat back to us.

The video is still just an idea and we need to consider a lot of aspects before we launch (technical and not) but adding a chat page is pretty feasible provided there is an interest.

Tell us what you think. Do we need a Buxr chat?

I think it would be pretty cool! I'd want it in another window though so I could still chat while browsing another site and whatnot. I guess what I mean is ... not embedded into buxr.com and essentially leave the website as it is just add a link to 'connect to chat live' or something idk. Just brainstorming =)

No one would monitor the chat. It will be there for you to exchange messages in real time. It will probably be more useful together with the weekly show I mentioned in my post. Check out this page:

Imagine me and Mike in the live stream (where you see the kittens) and you chatting back to us. Wink

Since our discussion last week, I've been watching a lot of these live chats, and most of devolve into bad jokes and insults.

Has anyone seen useful live chats?

Only on academic sites, and even then they sometimes devolve into jokes and insults. The only difference there is that bigger multi-syllable words end up being used. Smile

It's probably due to the fact that it's hard to follow or hold a conversation in a multi-person chat... No one ever scrolls back to understand the chat.

About half the time people here don't bother to go back and read previous comments fully before jumping in, so live chat will probably only make that aspect worse. Wink

I was wondering, would it have a profanity filter?

It won't help entirely, but you have an interesting point there, and not a bad idea either.

However, your still going to get that carp anyway... See what I mean.

The point... People find a way around things if they really want to, and technically it was never said so a filter would not have caught it. Besides I could have been talking about the fish. Wink
