What are you guys doing for Independence Day?

submitted on June 24, 2012 by YanBz in "Member's Lounge"
We will be camping/kayaking in Michigan, it is a 3 day trip, we are going with a bunch of friends, and I look forward to it every year. Here is a picture from our last year trip to Galena, IL:

What are you guys up to?

P.S. Also, since we are on the topic, I fail not to notice that we have zero Independence Day deals on Buxr! Twisted

It's weird since Independence Day falls on a Wednesday this year so I'll be back at work on Thursday morning. Probably just a cookout/potluck at our neighbors house... then party hard on the weekend! Smile

If I'm off work, I'll be hiking at a local wildlife management area and having a picnic.

From my apartment rooftop,I will be watching the fireworks show at the Washington Monument. I have a 270 degree view, so smaller neighborhood displays will also be visible. Very nice, but it doesn't make up for the horrendous traffic jams in D.C. everyday! Artistic

I worked in D.C. back in 1976-1978. Great experience but you are so right on the traffic!

Typically i start every 4th of July going to the cemetary, bring my sister some flowers. She passed on the 4th of July in 1986. Then We will more than likely go for a boat ride, and hang out at the swan festival. Big Grin Maybe do a little grilling and smores at the end of the day.

I remember last year when you posted this. I hope your great memories of your sister get you through the day and hopefully there won't be any rain for you so you can enjoy the cook-out!

Thank you clover....it only rained in the a.m. so we took the kids to breakfast, then the swan fest for a horse ride, some swimming in the pool, then dinner and fireworks. It wound up being a great day, especially for my granddaughter that now lives with us. I hope everyone had a great day! Big Grin

Good luck with all the work on the house! I just bought a house 3 months ago and while it didn't need repairs or anything it was still a ton of work. The owners somehow trashed it in 5 days (I saw it 5 days before we finally closed) and it was disgusting. Not to mention all the walls were either pink, orange, or a really ugly brown color, so a bunch of painting has to be done. 3 full dumpsters, and too many gallons of paint to count later, and my house is finally livable. Good luck!!!!

I like watching fireworks in the evening. I wish fireworks will continue for atleast 2 hours. Good news is I can watch fireworks from my apartment itself. It is on 14th floor in a high rise building but I am eager to go near to watch.

Well, usually during the day I go to a friend's barbeque, but not this year. No way. I'm not leaving the house until tonight.

Why is it 102 degrees again in Chicago? This is crazy!

Guess I'll be stuck at home finishing up some work, maybe post a few deals on BUXR, etc.

Hopefully, later on it will cool off enough so we can maybe go out to see the fireworks, then to a party after that.

    Happy 4th Everyone! Smile

Happy 4th to you also! I will be staying home and hoping that the renters next door don't shoot fireworks through my windows! Neutral
