Beautiful dog! You'll definetly need a dog bed, we had one of those round pillow beds with sherpa fur, the dogs loved it and its washable.

I used to be a demonstrator for Nutro and used their food. They sold out to Mars a couple of years ago. I still use the Nutro Ultra because it has three proteins in the food....salmon, chicken and lamb. Addie my Golden loves the Ultramix (link below) It has dried banana's, peas, carrots in the food. I belong to BJ's and use the Berkley & Jenson Holistic dry food. $19.99 for a 16 pound bag. Hope that helps. Addie is going to be twelve in January. She also gets a spoonful of Newman's Own Turkey & Brown Rice under her dry food. I would get her groomed and trimmed to avoid mats.

I would look at getting a large furminator or similar brand brush for once a week, then just any brush for other days; this breed has to be brushed regularly.

Forgive me if I am a splash of cold water, but designer dog foods are a bit much for me. We buy Blue Seal brand dog food at the feed store, this is the same brand we feed to our horses. We have used "Dog Krunchies" for about 20 years through dogs that lived long happy lives. They have senior and puppy and specialty varieties, and switched to those upon our vet's advice that a dog needed a more or less protein or fat or whatever. We pay around $20 for a 50 lb bag. We have never considered insurance for any animal other than high-level (ie valuable) competition horses.
We have been through a number of beds... eventually anything seems to get mushy and misshapen. Some seem filled with way too much cedar chips. And depending on the dog, some will chew or tear the outer cover.

Your vet should be the only resource you use to tell you that Whiskey needs specialty food.
My opinion is that super premium dog foods are more about marketing and sales than about pet nutrition. If you seek all natural or organic products for those sakes, that is a whole different reason and I support those decisions.

A veterinarian acquaintance of mine told me once that there is no benefit to having increased vitamins, minerals and nutrients in a dog’s diet. He said they get what they need from their food, and the dog rejects the excess just as people reject their excess nutrients. It had me thinking…If my dog is going to poop all these great nutrients out of his body, what on earth am I paying for? Seems like pretty expensive poop to me…

There are many terms associated with pet foods intended to convey quality. Of all these terms, only two have a fixed meaning – organic and natural – and neither one of these actually ensures quality. Organic and natural ensure the types of ingredients used but not necessarily the quality of those ingredients. All the other terms associated with pet foods are marketing concepts. They attempt to define the quality of the pet food but there is just no guarantee.

In the end, the only way to determine the quality of pet food is to feed the animals.

We've been lifelong dog lovers, too, and of course in the beginning we bought vitamins and everything, too. But we soon learned that their food is an adequate source of everything they need, and over the years they've lived long and healthy lives following a regimen as described by equipurple. We were fortunate that they rarely needed veterinary care beyond the regular annual visits. I attribute that to the correct diet, exercise, and just daily interaction with them that allowed us to observe them and provide preventive care to avoid bigger problems later.

As for the beds, washable is key. The foam or cedar-filled bags did not work out for us either when the corners got chewed and the filling or chips spilled out (a big mess to clean up). Dogs do need something of their own to chew so they will not tear up their beds and your shoes! I guess some breeds chew more than others. Most of our animals loved thick beach towels to sleep on, we spread out several stacked up together to provide a thick layer, which can be easily washed. We let them sleep inside, but they do have doghouses outside, and they have liked the cedar ones and the ruffhouse/dogloo types equally well. If you get a doghouse, get the kind that you can take apart and hose down if needed.

Our current pair seems to collect all their "toys" together in a box, and go there to get one when they want to play.

I bought a wicker laundry basket at Big Lots years ago for Addie's toys. I will leave in the morning to go to work and when I come home her toys (stuffed and others) are all over the floor. She sleeps on the bed with me....I know! One night I was almost asleep and she jumped off the bed and left. She came back with one of her stuffed animals from her basket in the den and brought it to bed with her. She will be twelve in January.
