With the new credit card law banks are charging "foreign transaction fees" of up to 3% when you use your credit card online to make purchases from other countries even if the currency is in US dollars!
I just got hit with a 3% fee for purchasing a book from a store in New Jersey through abebooks.com
I buy lots of used books from abebooks.com. They search the inventories of used book stores across the US & other countries, but they are based in Canada & if you buy through them it's considered a foreign transaction.
