Walmart "Website Glitch" Caused Pricing Errors, Both Too High and Too Low (Poll)

submitted on November 6, 2013 by HouTex in "Stores / Merchants"
UPDATE: All orders were cancelled.

Shoppers scooped up electronics and games at too-good-to-be-true prices today, causing them to sell out online in just hours. Finally the site crashed and visitors saw only a "site maintenance" message. The problems were blamed on an internal technical error. Expensive items were priced too low, while inexpensive items like a can of Lysol were marked $100. No word yet if the orders will be cancelled.
Causing an online frenzy among shoppers, an apparent glitch on Walmart's website early this morning led to $8.85 listings for items, including computer monitors and projectors normally worth hundreds of dollars.

When asked if the company will honor items sold to customers at the mistakenly low prices, a spokesperson said the company is "still working through those details."

The next day Walmart announced that all orders for items with the wrong prices were cancelled and payments refunded. Customers received emails that said
We have reviewed your order and this was cancelled due to a price error.
Prices are subject to change without notice.
Wal-Mart did not say how many orders were cancelled, but within five days they will send customers $10 e-gift cards for future purchases.
1. Did you see the crazy pricing?
2. Did you buy anything from today?

I shopped at Walmart yesterday, and there were no lines at the checkout which was a surprise since the lines are usually a dozen people long. Wonder if this had anything to do with the way people are shopping at Walmart.

Not all orders were cancelled because mine shipped. I only got 1 video game though for the Wii U. It was a $60 game for only $18.73.
