Walmart Plans "Black Friday Sale" in July to Compete with Amazon's Prime Sale

submitted on July 13, 2015 by HouTex in "Sales / Promotions"
In response to Amazon's announcement about their Prime Day offer on July 15, Walmart plans to launch a rival sale on the same day, including more than 2,000 online exclusive "rollbacks," as Walmart calls their discounts.
The lower prices on items in categories including electronics, home, baby and toys will last 90 days, the typical time period for rollbacks, which Walmart usually has hundreds of at any given time throughout the year. Starting Monday, July 13 Walmart is also reducing the minimum order for free shipping from $50 to $35 for at least 30 days.

For the third year, Best Buy also has a July Black Friday sale planned, this year on July 24-25, 2015. Since 2010, Target has also tried to drive in more customer traffic with their "Black Friday in July."

Unlike Walmart, it looks like Amazon is limiting the time or quantities on their Prime deals. This Amazon Fire Stick for $24 posted here was a short term Lightning Deal. It shows "100% Claimed" and "Waitlist full" for Prime members and $39 price for others, where it is not sold out. Eeek

The Walmart deals that are marked "Rollback" are good for 90 days.

Amazon has been AWFUL today! A-W-F-U-L!!!! I watched an item countdown, put it in my cart the instant it went on sale, clicked checkout and got an error it was unavailable. Then spent 20 mins on the phone with a representative who didn't speak English well as they spent the entire call talking down to me about how I didn't understand how an item in my cart, really isn't in my cart. WAS EXTREMELY ANNOYED!

BuzzFeed posted 25 of the best (according to them) Twitter responses To Amazon Prime Day -

Although Amazon declared Prime Day a success, CNN says customers disagree -
One tweet summed up exactly what I think: "#PrimeDay is not Black Friday in July. It is April Fools in July. @amazon"
