Walmart officially cuts iPhone 3GS to $97

submitted on May 25, 2010 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"

Walmart on Monday announced that it will begin selling the 16GB Apple iPhone 3GS for just $97 today with a 2-year contract. Prior to this announcement, the iPhone 3GS retailed for $199; the 2008 iPhone 3G sold for $99.

Steve Jobs is expected to introduce the next-gen iPhone at WWDC 2010 on June 7th. So the price cut seems like either an attempt to clear out remaining inventory or a way to slide the 3GS down the line to replace the $99 8GB iPhone 3G -- a move which would confirm some rumors that Apple is no longer accepting orders for the 3G model.
