Walmart Launching Same-Day Pickup of Online Purchases

Walmart has announced that its’ ‘Pick Up Today’ option, which gives shoppers the convenience of ordering items online and then picking them up at a local store within four hours that same day, will be available across the country by the end of March.

Pick Up Today is different from "Site to Store," which lets you order select items online and have them shipped to the nearest location. This new service offers same-day pick up of online purchases, for free. Walmart began testing the program at 750 stores in 20 markets late last year and will roll it out nationally to all locations by the end of March.

There's a four-hour wait between purchase and pick up, and not all items on the website are available. Orders placed after 6 p.m. won't be ready until the next day and everything will be held for 48 hours.

Guess they're trying to complete with Sears' service which I like a lot. Pickups at Sears typically take less than 5 minutes whereas pickups at Walmart take forever and that's if you can even find someone to help you.

Walmart is more convenient for me than Sears. Of course, I'm not sure my local store can pull this one off. If the check out area is any indication of the store management, this would still be a long process to get help and get checked out.
