Wal-Mart Cutting Prices On EVERYTHING

PRICE CUTS: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is trumpeting what it calls a large round of price-cutting on all of its products, including food. The world's largest retailer says it will cut prices on 10,000 items in stages.

THE SKEPTICS: Analysts question whether the changes differ meaningfully from the retailer's usual promotions. They also note Wal-Mart's prices undercut competitors less than they used to.

THE REASON: Analysts say the cuts are Wal-Mart's way of responding to toughened competition. The company's fourth-quarter report showed store traffic dropped.

At first, I thought it was a horse, but now I'm thinking it's some kind of abstract picture? I guess it's whatever you want it to be. Neutral

Big joke! Our Walmart has gone UP on most items. Milk went from 2.00 per half gallon to 2.98. That is just one example. And they also quit furnishing the anti-bacterial wipes for the shopping carts.

Study: Walmart Price Cuts Are Actually Price Hikes

If you've turned on a TV recently, you've probably seen one of the seemingly countless Walmart ads where the retail behemoth brags about its latest round of price cuts. But a new study says Walmart's actually been raising its prices on groceries in 2010.

According to a report by JPMorgan Securities, since February they have seen a 2.3% average price increase for the items in their 31-item basket of grocery goods at Walmart. This follows a 1.9% increase between January and February.

this isn't news whatta. Personally i don't care too much for Walmart.

However, no single store has the lowest prices across the board on anything and all stores raise prices now and then.

A smart/thrifty shopper does their homework before going out and opening up their wallet by looking over weekly grocery/retail ads, clipping coupons and remembering to take them with you (I know a couple people that cut coupons and then forget to take them along when they go shopping), price comparing etc. on the net and if possible price matching where allowed to save even more.
