Vote Early - Vote Often!

submitted on November 2, 2008 by Solstice in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Everyone gets a fresh new start at the beginning of the month. Don't forget though that other members pay attention to how you vote. Vote early and often, and you will find that your support is more frequent and early as well. Wait till the last minute and you will find that people wait to cast votes for you as well, and if you don't vote very often you will find that your support is minimal.

Just a couple of tips for those who want to get in on the increased prize pot prize this month.

Best of luck to all.

I'm disgusted. Thats the only way to put it. The lack of voting on items posted today is appalling at best, and only slightly less appalling for those that were posted yesterday. The last 18 hours have been pathetic. So here is the gig, I want to vote more personally, but if this kind of behavior continues tomorrow I'm going to start taking a different approach. EVERYONE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! The only reason to take this stance is in hopes of winning the daily contest more often, which is just sad and almost smacks of contest rigging in its own right.

In addition, the only reason I'm waiting to see what happens tomorrow is that some of the lack of voting could be weekend related, but certainly not all of it. Especially from those who chose to post deals today but ignore their fellow members deal hunting efforts.

Thanks Mr Cheap, but I was not exactly addressing you. Smile

If everyone voting like you the site would be completely different, and I think for the better.

I've been seeing it a lot lately. The late voters, the "win" voters and the ones who just barely vote at all. But, what goes around comes around. Right?

I'm declaring this outright to help drive my point home for some... If you don't vote early, or only on a minimal basis, I'm not going to vote on your stuff very often, and then I'll only wait until the last possible minute to do so. This will especially hold true for those who are posting deals daily, but not as much for the occasional visitor who only pops in once and a while.

If you are not seeing many votes from me you might want to take this statement into consideration, as it might be the reason.

Looks like voting by posting members has gotten a little lean again the last 24 hours, I might have to start holding back my votes as well if it does not change. Wink

If you look at the monthly deals section, you'll notice a few who rarely vote and yet they still manage to win. I'm already being picky on who I vote for.

What about having a mandatory vote count. If you submit at least 1 deal, a vote count of at least 10 should be submitted. That would be around 70 votes to date. Things would really be different then. A bit fairer as well.

10 would be a bit too heavy, but at least a one for one ration would be an improvement I think, so long as the only votes that count for deal submitting credits are placed on contest active items. With idea being that if you want to post a deal that day you must cast a vote first. (Resetting every day that the daily contest resets.) Having people required to cast 10 votes for every one deal would actually favor those who submit 15-20 deals a day, and be a disadvantage for those only submitting 1-3 here and there, as the mods take into consideration sheer number of votes garnered when ties occur. However, this would be a sizable amount of work to set up website construction wise.

sounds good. But not 10 votes per deal, at least 10 in general. I mean I'll usually post 10 deals a day, and if you add some other frequent posters your looking at 20-40 deals a day. Ten votes per poster seems reasonable, don't you think?

Forcing people to vote once to post a deal in that 1:1 ratio is fine to me, but making them have to vote ten times first altogether is just as unreasonable. You're going to run into the same advantage-disadvantage problem over time that favors heavy deal posters, even if their deals suck. That and frankly, I've seen days where there are are 20-25 deals posted, but I find only 2-5 vote worthy, which means I could still vote my 2-5 times and submit a few deals, but I would rather not handout a bunch of freebie votes to crummy deals, unless I just want to post that many more myself. So, to shorten that up, I don't think it is a reasonable solution.

Think about it, If I want to be a heavy poster, and submit 20 deals, then I have to vote 20 times. That would seem more reasonable to me, as to some degree it acts as a balancing counterweight to winning in tied contests due to sheer volume of votes.

Hey, Steve I'm going to start a new thread for this topic, as I don't think it could use its own discussion page, and it might get missed by other users who would want to weigh in if it stays here.

I'm going to copy all of our comments over to that new thread.

Well as alluded to, I opted to hold back my voting today, as many of the other deal posters chose not to vote early today. I hope to see things change tomorrow, as I would like to offer my support for others, but this voting thing has to become a two-way street before that occurs. There are good deals out there that deserve votes, but I want to see some other votes cast first this time around.

After taking a closer look at yesterdays voting, I discerned that there were a few who voted early in the day and not just for points, as such I awarded votes accordingly. Thank you to those who are supporting their fellow members.

Your the biggest hypocrite, you know that? You talk about voting early and often. Yet, you're the biggest nitpicker.
8o% of your votes are "win" votes, you'll wait a day until you vote on some things. Apparently you have to wait until someone else votes first. You almost always pass my deals up and vote when theres 4-5 votes already. You won't vote on a coupon that saves $10-20, but you'll vote on a free shipping w/ $50-60 purchase. That is such a low value and EVERYONE has a deal like that. That's so common. I suggest you stop trying to run this site like you own it.

As of this comment only 18% of my votes garnered any points, whereas 25% of your votes have Steve. Thats just the straight incontestable math.

The J.C. Penney coupon that you're referencing I voted on because I actually used it, so it only seemed fair to give it a vote.

PS: Steve, you are not permitted to insult people on this site, so please refrain from doing so in the future. Thank you in advance.
