# of Views counter on deal pages

submitted on February 1, 2010 by orangearrows in "Buxr Website / Contests"
I see that there is a feature which shows how popular the deal is. Can we have something like a views counter which tells how many times the deal has been viewed/hit.

I don't want it, I just appreciate the conversation. I am still not sure and will comment once I ponder it further.

I have a feeling I won't have enough votes to pass this bill in the house.

@admin > What say? I think it's a great idea. When you keep track of so many number ( some of which I think are really not that necessary) -- the number of views on a deal might prove to be some meaningful info

Just a thought ...so putting it out there

Maybe instead of the popularity stars.

I think it gives a more clear picture and is a better gauge of which deal is actually getting more attention/more popular ( maybe not that many votes). As for me - the popularity stars don't really do much ( otherwise members would try and increase the pop by refreshing the page - as suggested by a member - personally think that people got better things to do than refreshing)...... but numbers - become a more visible factor.A good marker of knowing the interest it's generating and help posters in prioritizing their deals.

Votes gained by a deal ( I think) does not necessarily mean that the deal is good ( as far as I have seen at BUXR - always felt that free samples should not be considered for the daily deal prize) since everybody who visits BUXR does not vote. There are some really super deals which go unnoticed . Those deals might surface up with the number of page views and submitters/viewers will pay more attention to those.

It will also indicate the growing popularity of BUXR.

As far as deal sites go, I think BUXR has been developed very nicely. Smooth, classy, nice colors ..... lots of statistics to keep members/visitors interested and with active members providing great feedback you have been able to iron out the kinks. I think a page / view counter will just make things more interesting.

This feature is already on here with the popularity feature of the stars on the home page for each deal. I think that is sufficient enough

Some people might constantly refresh the page to get the counter up.

I will disagree, too, OA. I think popularity is better because it is a formula and could even be improved by being more nebulous and less obvious and subject to refresh abuse.

I would not be entirely opposed to free samples being taken out of contest consideration, but need to think further on that.

As for deals going unnoticed, only us hardcore voters look at every deal (and vote or don't vote or occasionally neg). The rest of the public comes looking for a deal on MP3 players or on HDTVs or for a listing of freebies. And that's fine. For the record, that is what I think Editors' Choice awards should be for, deals that don't hit the popularity chart but are for some reason (by nature of price or product or promotion) great deals.
