Any Valentine's Day gift ideas?

submitted on January 26, 2011 by YanBz in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Valentine's Day this year is February 14, 2011. Have you thought yet what you would give to your special one? Flowers and a box of chocolates always do the magic for my wife, but I am thinking to do something else this year and need your help with ideas.

On a side note, we seem to have only a few deals right now on Buxr dedicated to the day. I think it is a major missed opportunity on your part to get some deal prizes. I will make sure to devote some of the Editor's Picks to Valentine's Day deals in the coming week or so.

Nice jewelry or spa services have always worked well for me as gifts for Valentines Day.

I think if you offer 'experience' as a gift (I am talking about spa here) then it should be something that involves both of you. A spa gift card "just for her" could be good for mother's day...

I've posted a lot of deals the last week with great ideas for V.D. & made mention of it. Today a great pair of sandals delivered free from JCP & $10 off $20 code for Soma Intimates! How can you go wrong there? A gift for her, but really for you! Confused

Deb, you should be tagging them as Valentine's Day using the 'Seasonal' tag. This way evetyone can find them using the link I included in the original post (and via the menu bar on the deals page)

Really? They are not really Valentines Deals I'm just trying to sell as such. Another admin said on 1 of my deals, "Honesty, its probably best to drop off the whole "valentines" bit," so I hestitated to try it with my next V.S, deal but couldn't resist. Get her a sexy bra w/some free sexy panties. Now which should I do? Drop my Valentine's bit or keep wrapping it into appropriate deals?

Is there a way to move the deals there now at least todays? What if I don't mention V.D. in title but just description as I've done?

Any products/coupons/sales dedicated to the day can be flagged as Valentine's Day, they don't have to have it mentioned in the title.

You & Solstice must discuss this since I'm getting conflicting instructions & will not be able to post deals until this is clarified.

Is it possible to move to V.D. category as Yan suggested or does that have to be in title?
Posted by Solstice 15 hours ago
We have no "Venereal Disease" category, so "no". Ba-da-dum!

There is nothing inherently "valentine" about this offer. There should be a direct reference to "Valentine's Day" either by the obvious nature of the offer, such as candy hearts, or within the construct of the code or sale itself. None of that exists in this case.

But what if I suggest that it be a good gift for Valentine's Day such as in my Victoria's Secret offer:
"Perfect Valentine's gift for you're special girl."
or eyecaredirect: Show your glamorous side for Valentine's Day with a new red-framed pair of glasses! (I didn't really say for V.D. although I thought I did.)
JCP "Buy your "girl" the famously popular gift of shoes for Valentine's Day!"

If I mention VD in description, do I tag as Valentine's Day??

Really? You allow an admin to say that to a lady? Joke or not, thats pretty unprofessional and unbecoming of a "gentleman" (and I use the term loosely.)

I am with orangearrows. How hopelessly romantic would it be to surprise your wife with a weekend getaway! Tell her Friday night she has 30 minutes to pack her bags, drop the kids off with grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, SOMEONE and hit the road. Even if its just a couple towns away, it would be awesome. Nothing big and fancy, just to reconnect and be alone.

If not do something that has meaning, like taking her to the first restaurant you ate at or where you proposed, etc. Rent the first movie you ever saw together and make her dinner and leave the kids with a sitter. SO many ideas.

I disappointed my girlfriend 7 years in a row by not getting or doing anything for her on valentines day. Then a couple years ago I made her dinner. Next two years, nothing. Might do something this year. This way she isn't expecting anything...and then BAM! Keeps her on her toes.

The main obstacle is kids. We have no family in the US, so I will have to arrange a baby-sitter, which pretty much rules out the surprise factor. Sad

Getaways sound terrific but way out my budget right now. I think I will settle on a filet mignon (thanks, CouponNut! Wink ) although a good Frensh restaurant can be pretty close price-wise to a small getaway Evil

Here is an idea I had some time back - find a nice room in a fancy Chicago hotel and stay in the city for just one night (about an hour on a train from where I live). Priceline can be helpful since I don't care much about where exactly it is located, as long as it is "5-star" LOL

Want to do something special with the valentine card, buy now and send the card pre-addressed and pre-stamped to the Postmaster at these special locations for a unique city stamp. Just enclose the card in a larger envelope. With Postmaster Attn: Valentines

*LOVEland, Colorado 80537 - this will get you a postmark with a small poem on the envelope
    *Romance, Arkansas 72136
    *Kissimmee, Florida 32741
    *Valentine, Nebraska 69201
    *Valentine, Texas 79854

My day care provider is volunteering to watch the kids on Saturday, Feb 12th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm so all the parents can have a romantic night out (or in) without having to worry about a sitter... and no additional charge than what we pay per month. That's all the gift I need! Big Grin

You might try a childcare barter. A friend has your kids for an evening (or sleepover) and then you take theirs. Two couples both get free nights out with no babysitting fees.
