Up For Changes?

submitted on May 2, 2015 by djhciskoski in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Idea Yan, I know you cannot just give money away, especially on the days the site has little activity, but I think BUXR needs to come up with ideas to reward those that aren’t winning. Aren't we all tired of seeing the same names in the top 20, including me. Let's get some of the newbies to stay in the game. I am sure there are a lot of great deals out there we never see because we don't give new people a chance to win and motivation to stay.
In the past there have been some topics about changing up how to win a contest, maybe some should be started. I know I had mentioned a certain time of day when a deal was posted. Predetermine a time the day before and whoever posts a deal closest to that time wins. If it is a tie, the deal with more votes wins. Reward with the 20 points a winning deal would get, but not the money. This way, no money is lost, but the scores change.
Use the daily editor’s pick more often, either for a deal or topic, again, only points awarded. It might get people to start talking again.
How about we all go back to only getting 10 deals a day. I don’t usually post that many, but I have, and I wonder how those who are not Power Users can even win. Is 50 votes too many when the site lately has not averaged 50 deals a day? Maybe our comments and votes should be limited to make them more valuable to spend!
How about an end of month deal with the most money made for a deal being clicked through. It might even bring old or expired deals back into play.
I really do not think money has to be rewarded for any of these, but this way, those that are not winning money during the month on their deals posted, have a chance to win the monthly contest - not necessarily others getting to double dip! This is a really great site, I have gotten so many good coupons from BUXR, I would hate for you not to be able to keep it going.

Any thoughts buxrites??

there was another similar thread regarding changes. i had suggested a new award where you could keep your deal going for an additional 12 or 24 hours once it was "off contest."

i also think that the $5 bonus should go to the person with the most overall votes period, not just the top 2 or 3 that are already getting a prize.

reducing the number of deals one can post will only hurt the site more. there have been a few days i have gotten to almost 20 deals posted. i still dont win on those days, but at least there is some "movement."

one other thing that i said on a different topic. i DO think it would help if buxrites try to find "different" deals and new merchants to add to the site. we are all guilty of posting "the same" deals often.....michaels, kohls, gap, jc penney, etc......lets see some new blood! i know i try to post one or two new merchants every month.

Great post. I suggested the 10 limit a couple of weeks ago and it didn't go over well with admin. It will be interesting to see the comments appear.

i would rather let EVERYONE post 20 deals a day than drop the number of deals to 10 a day. buxr cannot afford to have LESS deals posted.

I can agree to that, I just think it should be equal. Just because we can edit deals, shouldn't mean we should get more. I think Power Users are there just to help out in need when admin. is not available. Some deals have such a short window that while it sits waiting to activate, it is slowly expiring which can make the 24 hour contest time worthless.

You also shouldn't feel bad for the ones that are low on the board. They should vote on deals! That is what this about....not waiting to see if the deal will be in the top three before uping it. Vote on it. Obviously you can't vote for the ones that post 20 deals a day....you wouldn't be able to vote for any other deals.

Yes, but when I was new, I really tried hard to vote for deals I thought were good, so I would use them if I needed. I still try to do that - most days - but I think most of us vote to win points in the end, not necessarily because we feel the deal is that great. I think that has been proven time and time again that the exact same deal at the end of the day doesn't tie. Or if someone posts a better deal after one for a store has already been posted, people will stick with the first deal, not the better deal.
And sometimes, all the voting in the day cannot let you catch up to the points you earn from someone replying positively to comments made. There must be some friends out there that just comment to earn points to boost the rank in the monthly contest.

one of my other pet peeves, but i suppose i understand to some extent. my daughter would like to be a member here but she cannot because she lives with me (i learned about this from another problem i had maybe a year ago or so). she uses the site but cannot post or vote.
it takes me a lot of effort and some time to get "ranked" high up on the list, for others it seems so easy. i havent been around as long as many though and i understand the "seniority."

all in all, at the end of the day, if you want the points, you HAVE to vote on a deal that has been voted up because if you dont then you lose. you may not like the deal or you may not think it is so great, but you still vote on it. there are a lot of people at the bottom of the list that dont seem to vote often, for whatever reason.

Reducing number of deals to 10 is not a solution. We need more deals, not less, for the site to go back to profitability.

I will likely have to reduce monthly prizes in May. Buxr has been costing me around $1000-2000 every month, and taking the amount out of paycheck for a prolonged period of time is unrealistic. Sad

anand.....i dont know why i just saw this post, but i think it is an excellent idea! how many admins are there?....just two? i would say that there could be other criteria for having the best deal of the day (especially if there is now only going to be ONE)....."best new merchant deal", "most deal submissions in a day", "best topic of the week", "best topic of the month", "most voted for", "most unusual deal", "long time no see deal", "best holiday discount", "best in-store only deal", "best online only deal", best "freebie", "best deal for kids", "best deal for seniors", etc.....i think that would mix it up quite a bit.

YanBz, We all know that it is hard to pick deal. But, like you, we are all spending time to earn that perks which makes us happy like we have won a competition. Big Grin

Not sure how much time it is taking to post a deal here for all other people. I see couponut, clover, mdshopper1, laaya, djhciskoski and many other friends posting deals by spending more than 30 mins a day. And all efforts going in vein for nothing. (For me, taking at least an hour to post 10 to 12 deals)

I prefer Admins to pick the best of the day(below you mentioned no more monthly awards. Smile ). So that we can see a healthy competition and also lot more submissions.

Kind of sad too that buxr members just vote on comments, earn points, don't submit deals, win money and think this site can keep earning and paying out money when deals aren't posted. If it is my correct understanding, if we do not click through the deals on this site Yan makes no money. All the positive voting for one another is nice, but it doesn't help pay the bills!

2kidsnuts, why the negative voting? I never mentioned names, but you are looking pretty guilty of the comments I made. Looks like you will come in 6th place last month and here is your activity.
I try to play nice and I was just making a comment. Sometimes the site gets frustrating when some people are actually trying to help others save money while posting good deals and others just vote & comment to win. Maybe Yan should stop paying out money for people who only vote and comment.
Go ahead - give me another negative vote, don't comment, you wouldn't want anyone to give you one back.

Compared to what? Yes, sometimes coupons are repeated with same terms, dates, etc., but a different code or printable. I have done that, and yes, that is same old...but as far as seeing all of the same stores, new deals and dates appear, daily or weekly, so new coupons, codes or printables need to be posted.
By all means, Stevie, join and post some new deals!

I just looked at the daily contest area and noticed there haven't been ANY daily contests this month. We're already on August 4th here. Oh dear, what's going on now?

So that's why we're back down to near 20 deal postings per day. I would have to assume a lot of people don't even bother submitting deals when there have been skipped contest days. Kind of a CATCH-22, LOL, this is getting ridiculous. Confused

    Alright...I'll say it...
I want to see advertising. In fact, I LOVE junk mail. In my business, it's interesting to see how other retailers advertise.
Also, including exclusive coupons, free shipping, free gifts, contests & sweepstakes, etc., in their ads to lure us to their sites would be great for everyone.

I just don't like pop-ups that interrupt what you're doing in the middle of the screen. THAT kind of advertising is annoying.

    Just a thought. Idea
