Three Ways to Avoid Duplicates and Rejections with Submissions

Tip#1:
When searching for duplicates, you can use the "Search older deals" function located on the right hand side of the screen. this option comes up after your initial search.

Remember, freebies can never be re-submitted on Buxr, and sometimes they can linger for a long time on the Internet. This means a freebie could have posted a long time ago, but you need to use the "Search older deals" to find it.

If you find one that is still available but older, just flag it as "Alive Again".

Tip#2:
Try to use unique words to narrow down your search results, and/or combine two or three words to further narrow the results.

Example: Searching for "algebra", and then initiating the "Search older deals" function, only produces a mere 3 results to look at.

Example: Searching for "math", and then initiating the "Search older deals" function, produces 31 results. A difference of ten times as many results!

Tip#3:

Make sure your "customize the view" box has these selections: "Expired: Show" and "Area: All Deals". This will guarantee you don't miss deals available in select cities, or expired deals. More info about customizing your deals view can be found on this wiki page:

Thanks, Solstice, these are good tips. I just re-designed the "Search older deals" feature today so the link is now placed more prominently on the page. You can now find it on the right hand side of your deal and coupon search results - circled in the screenshot below (the link used to be at the bottom of the search results page).

I usually search fairly well but wasn't aware of the "search older deals" feature. Hmmm, makes me wonder if Solstice was thinking about me during this discussion....LOL

oh no! I'm using Google Chrome for the first time and when I clicked "Positive" on the vote, it registered as "Negative"! I guess on the discussion it doesn't have a pop up window to ask you to comment on why you're voting it down. SO SORRY! I actually thought this was a really helpful topic!

Alright, good news! the voting issues on Chrome should be a thing in the past. A few hours of digging around, a couple beers and everything seems to be working now! Give it a run and tell me that I didn't waste all that beer for nothing

All that beer by the way was there to relieve the stress I had after several hours of not being able to find anything that works.

If you don't mind the technical details, the issue turned out to be really tricky. It appears Google Chrome sets the clickable (hot) area of a link based on the default font size that link has and this area can go over the size of the link itself. The trick is that the voting links are images (up and down arrows) and have no visible font. What happens then, by coincidence the default font size turned out to be much larger than the arrow height and the up and down clickable areas have overlapped. Now, since the down arrow paints itself after the up arrow, it overshadows the up-arrow's clickable area and takes over control even if you click above and outside it (within the up arrow's image boundaries). This doesn't happen with IE or Firefox that probably truncate the clickable area down to the size of the link (image in this case).

I didn't find any documentation on this and at the end just guessed my way through.

That's the way it always ends up for me. There's no guide or anything so I just wing it. It gives you a better sense of satisfaction though knowing you did it all by yourself though.

I do search the older deals. One problem I have is the deals that have been rejected in the past that I'm not aware of that you then again reject from me, then I lose a credit & my rejection % soars. Wouldn't it be easier if all submitters put the store or title of the product 1st? I have used every word possible in searching for past deals & do look at older deals and they still don't pop until I submit them. I still need more tips I guess.

Don't fret, advanced search is in the works. With it you will be able to search inactive/rejected deals and narrow your search by store. It just takes time but eventually I will get it done.

I found out before the issue was worked on that with Chrome, you had to click above the positive arrow to get it to work. Thankfully, I don't have to do that, anymore.

Seems to me the first three words are important when searching for duplicate deals, but it doesn't help if you start with a dollar sign $.

I think you'd probably get better results with a keyword or part of the product name.
Adding a dollar value or long string of words may narrow your search too much.

I have a question since I see it mentioned in the comments to this post. Is it possible to search rejected deals? I had wondered about a submission a while back that I thought may have been a duplicate to something that was rejected. I couldn't find any way to search rejected deals.
