TV DVD Boxset deal

submitted on February 3, 2010 by equipurple in "Stores / Merchants"
Submitted the next best price on Seinfeld Boxset after previous post was disqualified.

Yan's note:
This Chinese merchant will only accept Paypal and Western Union. We do not allow these on Buxr since there is a high likelihood of scam. We should add this rule to the wiki.

This vendor has a California address and accepts Visa/MC. However, check out this from their FAQ:
Some of these DVD's haven't even been released yet. How is it possible that you sell them?
There is a section of the American copyright law known as "The Berne Act" that Clearly states: films unreleased in the United States, including original versions of films altered and/or edited for release in the United States, are NOT protected by American copyright; thus, they are considered public domain. The entire purpose of our website is to provide otherwise unavailable films or television shows to the serious collector.

Any experts in copyright law (or international espionage) out there? This one legit?

First, let me say that I am not an attorney.
While there is a "Berne Convention Implementation Act of 1988" in existence, I seriously doubt that it can legally be applied to bootlegged copies of movies to render them part of the public domain.
See http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92appii.html for the actual text of this code.

There is no law stating that unreleased versions of films can be treated as public domain. Bootleggers attempt to apply this to the (poor quality) films they are selling on the Internet. China has long been criticized by the US for lack of enforcement of intellectual property rights, including movie piracy. The US has threatened retaliation at various times, but never followed through.
