WASHINGTON — Toyota has told dealers it will provide replacement accelerator pedals to owners who are unsatisfied with their repairs under the massive recall following dozens of complaints about the fix.

    No mechanical fix is going to resolve this problem, this new offer is simply more public relations damage control. The first repair was only a metal shim or spacer, so it didn't really have any effect other than to hopefully pacify the customers who were demanding action from Toyota.

    I would feel a little concerned driving a Toyota since these incidents happen out of nowhere. The one in San Diego where the cop had to help the guy stop - they are now brandishing the guy as a liar. Come on .....the accidents where people died due to random accl. also happened only once and they were gone.

    But another Qs - why is it happening only to vehicles made in US factories? Something to think about

      Is that true? Maybe Toyota withheld reports of the problems outside the US. The 8.5 million Toyotas recalled for unintended acceleration and braking issues included Europe, China and Japan as well as North America.
