Time Stamp

submitted on June 11, 2009 by chinnam in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Time stamp has to start once the deal came out of Queue.
Deals are sitting in Queue more than hours in day time and also at night time.

Some Power users are not using their Power on those deals which are sitting in Queue.

Admins has to do something on this issue.
It helps each and everyone.

Above deals are there in Queue for more than 8 hours.
No body (Power users / Admins) didn't do any thing on these to come out of the queue.

Thats why i am requesting Admins to start the time stamp only when the deals come out of the Moderation.
This gonna help every one(Ordinary members).
Then no body will get chance to comment on Power members.

So, Admins would u plz check one more time on this request/ problem.

Have to agree with Chinnam on this one. Other posts ( by power users ) go by, but regular postings are not entertained. I understand that power users are doing us a favor, but if their is an alternative like having a diff timestamp as requested above ( or maybe some other idea). Some deals are time sensitive - I don't even bother posting them since they will be sitting in the Q anyways. Also here on BUXR no one really cares for time sensitive deals since they are not really vote-generators. I still love to post them but if they happen to be sitting in the Q and get expired I lose 1 credit to post a deal.

As I see, the credit should be returned and not be taken away

On the flip side ...gotta say emma123 and Shawndiaz have been doing a great job moderating deals in the Q. I see them working on the Q whenever they can. They are the only power users ( as per me ).. thanks to both of them

Now, explain to me exactly why I should perform a thankless job? Confused

Well thanks for doing it. Not saying other people have not activated deals posted by me, but emma & shawn have been the most busy in the Q. bet you would agree with that. BUt again ..thanks for looking out

Why you should do the thankless job

      cos

You get to post deals directly to the Q

there is no limit to the deals you can post ( as I came to know recently)

the above 2 are pretty good reasons.

Thats why I asked if the admins can set some sort of requirement to be able to avail that privilege of being a power user. Since you are doing what you are expected to earn that extra privilege you get to keep it ( and rightly so) ...if someone is not doing their's they have Yanked by YAN ...what say?

Do not want to offend anyone here ..I understand I only recognized 2 people above ( not sure if you care for that ) but they were the 2 who were very visible while dealing with the Q so I mentioned them. Most of you have helped me out organize my deals better and set them in order. Appreciate it. It's just a discussion to make our experience here at BUXR more comfortable and pleasant. So let's discuss and get out the best ideas forth ... you all have been posting deals for a long time and bet you have some things to say about it too ... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

      1. Insulting the people who you want to help you is rarely a good method to employ, and will most likely garner the opposite reaction you seek. Unless you don't mind the result.

      2. You have not been here that long, and your rank is a mere apprentice. Having some experience under your belt, before demanding changes and what might be right or wrong would be helpful. Sorry, but your still a rookie with only marginal practical site experience, and limited understanding of the intricacies of the site. Not meant to be an insult, but a realistic observation.

      3. Power users generally, not in all cases though, avoid flooding the site with every average deal on the Internet, and instead tend to focus on the premium or more interesting deals. Therefore not having a limit is usually a non-issue. Additionally, Buxr history has shown that usually their deals do not require moderation, and so the privilege was earned.... note I say usually.

So yes, its fair. Show that your deals can be trusted over time with minimal modifications needed, and you will be far closer to earning Power User status. Your doing a decent job now, so you're already halfway there most likely.

Time stamps shouldn't matter and this was already answered. Stop beating a dead horse. Yan already answered this topic. To refresh your memory, he is his response.

"Some may think it is unfair but remember, you are not supposed to look at the deal time-stamp when voting. So to some extend I like this "unfairness". There has to be a reason for you to become a power user, right? " - Yan

Agreed, its a closed discussion, and the horse has been soundly beaten past death.

It would not matter if people voted early and did not try to hold out for the advantage. Thats the real problem and not the timers. Additionally, it gives the motive needed to become a power user.

To gain that status requires consistently accurate submissions, non-cheating, and a measurable contribution beyond even deal submission. Its a privilege and honorary title that is earned through application of self on Buxr. Apply yourself beyond the contest, and it will come quickly.

Maybe have a minimum requirement to moderate deals >> to be able to post deals ? Something similar to deal submission credits

Just brainstorming... what does everyone else think?

I was, but I'm starting to consider not bothering anymore.

      Lets see, moderate deals and...

      ... get insulted.
... get accused of being unfair.
... have more restrictions placed on you.
... have to listen to people complain about it all the time.
... get anything but a "thank you".

Yup, I can see all the benefits of being able to moderate now. Wink

Having a quota required of deals moderated would be a good suggestion since every time there is a deal in the Q... someone jumps on it ...helps 'em reach their "deals moderated" quota faster

Now your just sounding more jealous that anything else. It sounds like since you can't have the Power User status now, that you want to take it away from other people.

As a general rule, those who have been given Power Status earned it through work, application, and accuracy ,so the requirements have already been met, and no further ones are needed.

Never said I want to take it away. Just being fair. If I were to have it, I would too try and maintain it ..... If I were to get power status and don't post a deal for a year or moderate any deals or even show up @BUXR, do you think my power-user status is to be still provided to me? Do I still get to post deals without them being moderated or being able to post unlimited number of deals.

Am I being Jealous ...yes sure I am being. I post deals too with the same intention as you have. So if you have being given a entitlement ( which you do use fairly) then you would need to use it appropriately.

    Couple more things...

    ITS NOT OUR JOB!
WE DONT GET PAID FOR IT!
IT TAKES TIME TO PROPERLY VALIDATE A DEAL! EVEN MORE TIME FOR CODES!
WE HAVE LIVES OUTSIDE OF THIS SITE!

I'm not going to log on every five minutes to validate deals, especially when people only give you flak for doing it in the first place. This conversation is dead, was dead, and should continue to be dead.

We know that its not a job for any Power member. But, when you are doing that, finish that whole stuff what ever in Queue. Might helps every one.
Because we don't have that right to do(Moderating).
    Just small ex:http://www.buxr.com/queue/25900

See this one is sitting in Queue for more than an hour.

Only Admins can solve this Plm.

I've got the perfect solution, remove the ability of Power Users to moderate.

I solves the problem of complaints, and gives more encouragement for submitters to be accurate, not cheat, and contribute, so they can earn Power User status.

We can completely set aside the fact that they do out of their own free-will and kindness, and ignore the fact that it helps Buxr by getting the deals out there for general shoppers, while also ensuring they are accurate. Oh, and I bet it keeps the overhead costs of Buxr lower since they don't have to hire additional "site moderators" and allows them to give out more money.

Stop complaining! Power Users are doing members and the site a favor, even if only one in a long while.

Tell you what... From here on out I will only activate deals that are accurate, include PriceGrabber results if available, and are clear without vagueness. Since its a thankless job, I think submitters should at least be responsible for those things to earn early activation. Do a good submission and you get rewarded.

However, I will still only activate out of kindness and when I have the spare time, as it should be.

I just wanted to remind everyone that if 3 regular users verify a deal it will get posted also. I try to at least be 1 of the 3 people whenever possible. If you don't want to wait or make other people wait, you could always try that. I really am just trying to help and don't want to anger anyone so please don't kill me Big Grin . I recently learned that the contest eligible votes are the ones which are voted within 24 hrs of the deals being posted. That does make the deals sitting in the Q to be unfairly marked. Some of them do sit in for hours. This is not pointing any fingers to any power users but if the admin/owners of the site can really do something about it. Why do you hold the new users at a disadvantage just because they have to go through a Q. The clock should start counting once they are vote eligible. That would make it fair for all.

I do understand that this is an old topic, but I feel it does need to be addressed. Also did not hear any comments from the Admins/owners of the website on this.

As mentioned before, Time stamps SHOULD NOT matter. If you feel a deal is good vote for it and do not look at the 24 hour contest period. This is a deal site not a contest site to be manipulated for monetary gain. The contest is an incentive to post the best deal.

Again stop beating a dead horse. This issue was closed. If you want to become a power user and have the same privileges bestowed on us, pay your dues, post your accurate deals and wait like the rest of us did. You have only been here for 2 months. Wait your turn, follow the rules, post good deals and you will become a power user as well.

What does it mean pay your dues? A post should be handled the same way for all. Why differently?

Not trying to manipulate any deals. But if a deal sits in the q for say 4 hours, it only gets to run for 20 hrs. The votes in those 20 hrs are the ones counted. There might be people who might view the deal link later and think it's a good deal too. BUXR is not only the few bunch of people who are regulars (seems to be the same people everytime ) . There might be new people showing up who might think it's a good deal too. I would like to vote for a good deal in the 24 hrs ( and be fair as you say) but it should get it's COMPLETE 24 HRS

And your "beating a dead horse" comment is getting old ..very old

Also about being on this site....I been around a lot longer than you know . so chill

All posts are given 24 hour window to collect votes regardless of the time spent in the queue. Let me clarify something:

      1. If a deal is auto-moderated (power user) then contest eligible votes are collected until the deal age hits 1 day (precisely)

      2. If a deal is not auto-moderated (non power user) then voting stops at the time when the deal age hits 1 day plus the time spent in the queue. E.g. if the deal was in queue for 8 hours then eligible votes will be collected until the deal is 1 day and 8 hours old

      Hope this helps
