It's State Fair time in Texas, and the competition was fierce for this year's "Best Fried" foods.
Fried Frito Pie won best taste in the 2010 Big Tex Choice Awards, and Fried Beer won most creative.
Thank goodness nutrition labels aren't attached to the top new goodies at the State Fair of Texas. Eating these delectable morsels will make you cry with joy. Thinking about the calories and fat grams will just make you cry.
If you were to eat all eight of this year's best new foods – which also include Fried Lemonade, Deep Fried Frozen Margarita, Fried Chocolate, Fried Club Salad, Fried Texas Caviar and Deep Fried S'mores Pop-Tart – you'd consume a heart-pounding, take-your-breath-away 5,089 calories, about half of them from fat.
To be fair, these top new foods do have a few nutritious nuggets. There's a cherry hidden in the Fried Chocolate. There's fiber and protein in the black-eyed peas of the Fried Texas Caviar. And when you bite into the Fried Club Salad, you get carrots and tomatoes and lettuce. (It's very rare to get a bite of a vegetable at the State Fair of Texas.)
You'll need to be over 21 to sample the Fried Beer, which is a ravioli-shaped pretzel pocket filled with brew. Once you bite it, the beer becomes a dipping sauce. The Deep Fried Frozen Margarita is one part funnel cake, one part lemon-lime ingredients, and also requires ID.

(Sorry, there was no tag for "fat")
I'm still trying to grasp the idea of fried butter and chicken fried bacon from last year!
