Other than some sale prices, walmart has the most common items for less than target. The customer service is also about equally about the same. Target is more picky about coupons than walmart. That is one thing that I like about the self checkouts, it is sometimes actually easier to do it yourself than have the cashier examine the coupons and try to explain why they won't even try to scan it. Some cashier try to act too smart...Overall I like Publix the best though. I love all the great buy 1 get one sales, where you don't have to buy both to get the discount. It's actually a 50% sale and most of the time it is a steal of a deal. They also have 1cent (.01) mystery items on most mondays and their buy natl. brand get ours free days. Did I love to shop at publix? Big Grin
They also accept competitors coupons (ex: target, kroger, etc) they will double on some coupons (not sure of the specific days)and also will give senior disc on thurdays. Can you blame me for taking my mom with me then? Mr Green

If you read this article carefully, you can see how meaningless these types of studies can be. The numbers can be interpreted by either side to their advantage. Stores in only 3 states were used in the first study (New York, Indiana and North Carolina) and the "smaller study" surveyed just one Wal-Mart and one Target store in Massachusetts for a single month (January). I think it only shows that non-groceries may be cheaper at Target, but not groceries. But it's common practice to price items differently from store to store, depending on the location.

Groceries are big traffic generators, and Wal-Mart still dominates Target there. About half the items that Wal-Mart sells are groceries.

[The 3-state study] estimates that 15% to 20% of Target's merchandise are groceries, and 16% of Target's sales in 2009 were food and pet supply purchases.

Among the goods that [the 3-state study] compared, cheaper health and beauty items, and particularly smoking cessation gum, helped Target beat Wal-Mart.

But in groceries and household goods such as light bulbs, trash bags and detergent, [the single store comparison] found Wal-Mart still boasted better prices than its rival.

Target is probably more popular because of the coupons they offer, and they allow you to combine them with manufacturers. I get alot of free stuff at target with coupons.

The Wal-marts in my town really are like that people of walmart website where they show the stupid people shopping there. The Target on the other hand is where the upper middle class shop. So based on just their customer base I like Target better. The cleanliness of the stores also is affected by the people that shop there so once again Target wins.

As far as prices go, there are a few things that I can find cheaper at Walmart but overall Target is cheaper. When you combine their sales, gift card offers, and clearance it makes them the clear cut choice. My local Walmarts clearance is a joke. It seriously is mere cents off and sometimes actually higher priced than the regular price at other stores.

I've had problems with customer service at both stores but Target's corperate office seemed like they actually wanted to fix the problem and not just make me happy. I received a few follow up calls from them to make sure the problem had been rectified but they did not give me anything extra. Then again I told them I just wanted the problem fixed and did not want a discount or such. Walmart gave me a coupon for 10% off any one item but as far as I know nothing was ever done with my complaint.

When I went on vacation about 100 miles from my home though I found that Walmart was a lot nicer than Target there. I think neither store can completely "trump" one another but it depends on the location. In my town Target is the clear cut winner but in any other place it may not be the case.

I have to say I love my Target Superstore and the grocery department. Their prices are much lower than Publix and of course Winn Dixie. Of course WalMart has lower prices but they don't have the same selection that the Target Superstore does in the grocery department. They have a better selection of Organic items in the produce, canned and frozen food aisles. I still shop the other stores for the BOGO's but Target is my FAVE. I am talking the Superstores not the regular targets.

From what I read, Target is like heaven for coupon lovers but if you don't enjoy coupon clipping that much then Wal-Mart is probably better. I personally don't shop in Target very often, there is just no good store near by. I only go there when I have a gift card or need to buy a gift for a kid's birthday part (they seem to have a good variety of those)

This site is always good for a quick laugh. Ran across some videos on Youtube some time ago and just have to share. They're People of Walmart rap videos and they're absolutely hilarious.

I like Target, like mommy25 I like the coupons! I also like clearance prices. Especially on kids clothes and the quality is better. Big Grin
