Feasts celebrating mothers have existed throughout the world since the beginning of time. The modern version of Mother's Day in the United States, was first observed in 1907.

Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia decided that it would be a wonderful way to honor her deceased mother. Two years later, Jarvis and friends began a letter-writing campaign to create a Mother's Day observance.

Soon after, in 1914, the US Congress passed legislation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day

I think I remember American Girl Samantha mentioning that Mother's Day was instituted in 1914 - funny what you can learn from reading to your kids!

A great tip is to shop with rewards cards when buying your Mother's Day gift. You get Mom something and you get rewarded for doing it. But, only do this if you can pay your credit card off right away, otherwise your interest charges will take away any reward you may earn. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

You have mostly done very well with just one exception - #6. Yes, it came to me as a surprise as well that Christmas is the the holiday when we give most flowers. Here is the source: http://www.aboutflowers.com/fl.....tics-.html
Aboutflowers.com is hosted by the Society of American Florists and so can be considered a fairly reliable source

I save money on Mother's Day by looking online for gift codes or specials going on for the flower companies. There are so many mothers in our family...Every dollar saved on one gift adds up to another gift for another mother. Big Grin
