About a year ago, coffee giant Starbucks bought a mall-based tea retailer called Teavana, with about 300 locations that sold loose-leaf teas along with related gifts and accessories. This week Starbucks opened the first Teavana Fine Teas + Tea Bar location in New York, in Manhattan’s Upper East Side at 85th St. and Madison Ave., a few blocks from Central Park. The next location will open in Seattle around Thanksgiving. Tea bars will eventually be added to the existing Teavana locations, and they'll all sell handcrafted 12- or 16-ounce hot and cold tea beverages, loose leaf teas, and health-conscious food items. They don't sell any coffee at Teavana, although you can buy tea at Starbucks.
