Site suggestion to improve deal submission

submitted on January 3, 2010 by equipurple in "Buxr Website / Contests", last updated on January 5, 2010 by YanBz
Would it be easier to submit deals (or rather to not make mistakes submitting deals) if the initial selection of Product/Coupon URL/Coupon File/Sale was set up as a radio button selection with no default rather than a drop down menu defaulting to Product?

Would that make it more difficult for newbies?

I don't have a problem with it, or think it is hard. I would however like the cookie trail at the top to be clickable. So I could skip back to a section directly instead of having to go back section by section. Also I would like it on the verify page once you type in the description if return/enter would perform a search and not back me up to the savings page. That I do all the time and it annoys the crap outta me!

That last part annoys me as well and is quite irritating. Its habit to hit the "return/enter" key.

I am sure I can fix the "return/enter" key problem however making the "cookie trail" clickable is a bit harder.

Agree with you on the enter key, Whatta and Solstice.

Alright, test it out. The 'return/enter' key should now properly advance you to the next screen when submitting a new deal. In addition, 'return/enter' key in the 'Compare Prices' screen will initiate the product search if you enter something in the search field. If nothing is entered then the key will advance you to the 'Verify Your Submission' screen.

The 'enter/return' keyboard key when pressed on any of the screens during deal submission will move you forward to the next screen in the sequence, except the 'Compare Prices' screen where 'enter/return' key will search for a product if the search criteria is entered in the 'Search' field.

I like the idea, equipurple. I does make sense to show all the choices and have not default selection, especially as the page allows (the first submission page has very little other information on it).

I made the change for the first screen. The 'deal type' is now a radio-button with no default selection

Thanks YanBz for the quick fix! And thanks equipurple for the suggestions. Those are two things that have always bothered me.

Instead of making the submission page tabs clickable on the verify/submit page, would it serve the same purpose to add an EDIT button there? Edit could take the submitter to the same all in one page as we now with the edit button next to the deal. Is the data yet in that state prior to Submit?

Unfortunately I cannot do it. The data is not yet in the database at the 'Verify Your Submission' page and it has to be in the database for the 'Edit Deal' screen to function.

I will see what I can do to make the menu clickable. It is a bit tricky because of all the validation that happens between the screens, but I am sure something could be done...
