Shameless Activity Pushing and Suggestion

submitted on April 12, 2009 by Solstice in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Lately I've noticed a lot more people are trying to get their deals to have more attention by leaving pointless comments, which then in turn pushes their deal to the top of the activity rankings.

This its a corruption of the concept behind the "activity" purpose. The point of this feature, as far as I can tell, is too largely see information that is relevant to the deal. Not for trying to garner more votes by simply being on the first page.

Additionally, this effect can be easily negated if others were to start leaving pointless comments on their deal submissions. In a world of craziness this could turn into a a battle for who has "the last word", and where dozens of such comments begin to clutter the deal listings.

Therefore, I have a suggestion for the Mods. Perhaps the only comments that should create an "activity push" are those that include flagging with them. I would venture to say that 95% of other comments without flagging are just chatter between members or activity pushing. The truth is that most comments without flagging tend not to add or clarify something about the deal.

    Good Point Solstice.....
Now I will be more careful before commenting any deal.

I disagree. Buxr is supposed to be a social bargain hunting and sharing site. Half the fun is reading the comments (not to mention the discussions), and activity pushes let people see active discussions. If its shameless people will see through it.

True, and a good point. However, to be honest I find most of the interesting conversations take place here in the discussion arena, and I find it just as easy to click on a post to read the comments as I browse. Just an idea, could be good or bad I suppose.

I don't like this at all. Makes it easy to miss on-going deal discussions...

I like seeing ongoing relevant, amusing, or interesting discussions as well, so I'm in the same boat as you Mr. Cheap. (The comments aimed at activity pushing don't qualify as either.) I guess, I was just trying to think of way to overcome the attempts at "activity pushing" for whatever marginal advantage they might or might not provide. I'll concede the argument, as I now think that the removal of the social aspect is too high a cost for the possible gain.
