'Scareware' Operators to Pay $8.2 Million to FTC, In Settlement

Have you ever bought security software thinking you were saving your computer from an attack? Well you might have been tricked into doing it for viruses that don't even exist. Check to see if you were scammed, and bought one of these programs.
Marc D'Souza and his father Maurice were allegedly at the center of the scam, which tricked Internet users into buying fake security software to combat computer infections that didn't really exist

    Thank you for quoting the original article properly, so they get due credit, and for writing an introduction in your own words. We just have to be careful to avoid straight copying for legal reasons.

      @Solstice - I submitted this article yesterday but it was rejected by you. Any idea why? You would know, won't you? - since you removed mine and editing this one. Same article - same link.

      @Jack - nothing personal - just trying to figure out why there is a bias.

      We permitted the submission by another member since they quoted the original article properly, and wrote their own introduction to it instead of just copying it from the article.

    Best to buy any type security software off the shelf because you just never know what you are downloading, even if it is for FREE or otherwise!
