Same Deal Different Codes

submitted on April 6, 2011 by clover in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Three deals with the same expiration, same offerings but different codes. Shouldn't we change it to be the first deal that was posted? Just a thought!

There is value in the same discounts for the same dates. It used to be that some of us would alert the first poster and combine the codes into one deal, that is no longer the norm. I'm just commenting on facts, my opinion tends to verge from majority so I'll just vote on the poll.

Good call Clover. I have been looking into this multiple deals with different codes but with same discount or Value.

Admins should take some step to avoid unnecessary traffic in our playground

Agree with Clover - if expiry date and value is the same - combine it.

If it's printable coupons - I would rather have different deals.

I agree combining would be nice, I liked it better when it was the norm. I don't think you can get other people to voluntarily add another code when competing for prizes, of course it just my opinion.

PS - I need to get someone to explain how to amend a previously submitted comment I've never figured that out myself.

Clover, I don't want to be rude and just ignore your question. The darkness is symbolic of a life event and has nothing to do with buxr. I use this gravatar in another forum.

Its always annoyed me when there are multiple of the same deals. It's also not fair to the original poster because their deal gets pushed back a few pages and the more recent deal gets votes. I agree with orange though about printable coupons. I think online only coupon codes should be combined but that would also mean more work for admin.

I agree! If there was a way to make it easier for Admin that would help. Three of the same deals with different codes is not fair. I voted on one this morning and then realized I voted on the same deal six days ago. I got home from work and there was the third one with a different code. Something just doesn't seem fair. I thought we were in this to bring out good deals...not the same good deals.

I agree with you mooncow & clover and you're right clover, the same deal repeatedly shows up with a different code and at times by the same submitter, the only difference is the expiration date. That is why I highly comment deals with good expiration dates or advance offers to plan ahead, rather than just "shop'N drop" at a whim. Freebies are exceptionally nice because we don't always have time to find all that stuff. Great discussion topic clover! 2thumbs UP! Smile

Well, you as a submitter can always edit an older deal, or flag it as 'updated' and we will be happy to add your code. I can also add a warning that will show up during submission if Buxr detects a similar deal, e.g. same store and expiration date (detecting similar title would be more difficult). You can then make a conscious choice: submit it or add to an existing deal.

I don't want however to make it into a new requirement since enforcing it would be complicated. We already have plenty of rules and this would be yet one more... Besides, all these coupons are aggregated anyways on the store coupon pages, so for the shopper there is little difference if these are same deal or different ones

Another reason to keep separate codes as separate deals - these codes still have value and I don't see how we can reward the submitters for finding these codes other than have them submit them as deals and by doing so collect votes. If they want to, they can always add these codes to existing deals, but this should be their choice, IMHO

Unless, of course, points were given for adding to another submitter's deal. That would certainly provide incentive.

With some store codes, you can only use one time per customer. So, if you wanted to order again, you couldn't use that code BUT if someone had submitted a different code/same deal details, you could apply THAT code and enjoy the same discount on a subsequent order.
