According to this release http://www.product-reviews.net.....ober-2011/ I think only the 40 inch models are affected. The company sold 1.6 million of them in the US, UK, and Japan.
Sony has discovered that there are serious malfunctions in some of their 40-inch Bravia LCD models, forcing the company to announce a recall in Japan today, but with consumers affected in the US and UK too, since the televisions are sold worldwide.
Here are the specific model numbers: KDL-40D3400, KLD-40D3500, KDL-40D3550, KDL-40D3660, KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40X3000 and KDL-40X3500
So your 52's are not included in this recall. So far there have been 11 incidents of overheating and 1 consumer who called the fire department, but no injuries.
Owners of these models in the UK (manufactured in 2007 and 2008) have been advised that
'Sony is voluntarily initiating a free inspection, and if necessary a free repair to reassure you that these products meet your expectations,' the company said.
'If you own one of the products mentioned above, we invite you to contact your nearest Service Centre to arrange an inspection of your TV. Sony's service representative will visit to check your TV and will repair it as promptly as possible if it has the affected component.'
Anyways i'm not worried of Sony. Mine is Samsung who are the leading producers or suppliers to most of the LCD screens and monitors in the market (Sony is also getting from Samsung only). Recent update, Iphone 4s is using Samsung screens on their phones
They are heavy!!! If I can ever afford a new TV I don't know how I will get this one out of my den. I might have to use it as an end table or something.
