I call for a voting ban on all overaged's deals unless overaged accepts the mistake and apologizes in a comment to this thread.
When I see a hot deal - I vote up. When I see something of low value - I vote down. Never did I try to punish another member with a negative vote like that.
I have been here for a while and I appreciate everything Yan and Mike do for Buxr, but these kind of things take all the fun out of my time on Buxr
How about you lose a point if you vote down on the best deal of the day? That might reduce "retaliative voting." However, people have different opinions about what deserves a negative vote. The consensus seems to be that a deal only deserves a negative vote if there is a cheaper deal on the same item elsewhere. Others will vote a deal down simply if they think it isn't great. That's fine, but how about a penalty if it wins? Thoughts?
What really irks me is people giving negative votes on good deals just because it may not appeal to them. People have different tastes and not EVERY deal is going to be appealing to EVERY person. You are entitled to your opinion but why waste time being an a** and messing w/ someone who is trying to share a good thing? Just my 2cents.
And if you're wondering I'm not only referring to http://www.buxr.com/deal/free-.....rner_18271 I've seen a few things like this since I've joined from various people. Sorry to somewhat call you out phunkeey. I have nothing against you like I said you're entitled to your opinion. Guess I just needed to vent a bit. If everyone gave a negative vote on things that didn't appeal to them this would get old quick. Why waste your time. I can understand if something is obviously misplaced. Like junk deals that would end up in the trash. But if you think someone somewhere would use it don't bash people. I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to share money saving opportunities with other people. If you don't like my deals don't take them.
lol... End of my Rant >.< Hopefully I didn't make myself look like a complete idiot in the process... Much <3!
That was indeed a good rant. By "not for everyone" I meant that this deal was limited to the first 7000. I will vote down all deals like this simply because by the time they get to buxr the free stuff is gone. I think its a lame marketing gimmick.
I can see MrCheap's point and there are really a few things that can be done.
1. Enable members to roll back votes within a certain period of time. I am hopeful many of these votes are done by mistake or without much thought given and if a member had an opportunity to roll them back they would most certainly did. 2. Disable neg. voting for new members (like it was already suggested several times). I am reluctant to proceed with this change as this would mean adding more restrictions and I am never for those. 3. Bring out the issues like this for discussion. What you think is obvious maybe not as clear to others. Open discussions help set things straight and avoid problems in the future
I like the idea of being able to roll back votes. I voted down a couple of deals which on discussion and further looking into there was an error on my part. Now im stuck with a bad vote and probably a p***** off deal poster! The sooner we bring that option in the better imho.
I agree. First deal I posted Solstice commented and I accidentally hit the negative sign next to Solstice's comment. I thought it would close comments... Hehe, whoopsie! It's kind of funny though cause he said something like "Newbie Alert" and it was so so true, lol. To this day he has me grovelling at his feet. I didn't mean to! Honest! =P
How is it that even when I try to avoid participating in a conversation my name pops up somewhere. It would seem that my ability to keep a low profile has long since passed.
PS: Bnwsmile, you're fine in my book, so no groveling needed.
I am hopeful many of these votes are done by mistake or without much thought given
My vote was without much thought. It was done out of anger. I admitted that the first night when sostice called me on it. I am relatively new to this site and still learning. I try to post deals that I think are good. Like, bnw said,
What really irks me is people giving negative votes on good deals just because it may not appeal to them. People have different tastes and not EVERY deal is going to be appealing to EVERY person." There are "deals" here that do not appeal to me in the slightest but I do not neg them because of it. I kind of understand the religious thing, I'm not religious myself but lots of people are and there are some people that can't go to the church to get these items that are free on the net due to disabilities and such.
Also I'm still trying to understand why a freebie that is ongoing is considered a bad thing? Just because some of us knew about the freebie for a while since it was ongoing there are others that didn't and it still is a deal so why is it bad? I asked this on one of the freebies but no one answered.
I don't like seeing my items negged, I don't think anyone does, including Mr Cheap. I take a lot of time looking for deals and try to be selective. there are thousands of "deals" out there but i try to find those that appeal to me and would hopefully benefit someone else. I realize that the deals I post cannot benefit everyone. That goes for everyone else here that posts deals. All deals cannot and will not benefit everyone.
If there are things that people here do not want to see let me know and I will make sure I do not list them.
Yeah, just because it is limited doesn't mean vote it down. I mean all things have limits.... But to each his own. I'll just smile proudly when I receive mine in the mail as well as the others that opted in for it =)
Or get ticked off when you get an email saying, "due to the overwhelming response to our. . . . " Here's my original post on this issue: http://www.buxr.com/topic/free.....t-1000_284
Na, that wouldn't bother me. Whats painful is seeing a HUGE sale on a $300 luggage set going for $30... Adding it to your shopping bag and then right when you click checkout you get an error. You press the back button and "We're sorry the item you have selected is permanently sold out." It hurt.
There will never be harmony on Buxr because there are as many good and bad deals as there are opinions. I am totally fine with anyone voting down my deal (and reasoning why) but I am not fine when it is done in response to my (negative) opinion about their own deal
Phunkeey I think I will have to call you out again on this and hope we can resolve this by discussion. Could you please explain your logic in voting down this deal?
Its like saying a Sony 42" HDTV at $1000 is a bad deal when compared to a Samsung 42" HDTV at $950!. I dont understand how you can make this comparison at all!
2 Questions with that (I guess they mean similar things)
1. Does that mean I should expect you to vote down every thumb drive deal (and other cheap and ubiquitous products, except the lowest priced one irrespective of what brand it is and how it is designed) that pops up on buxr?
2. Would you rather pay less and buy a poorly built product as opposed to paying more for a longer lasting one? If so how do you expect your option to be held by everyone else? Im not saying here that a cheaper Kingston drive would be poor for everyone but what if several other people have that opinion?
This is what I would consider a good practice. I will however encourage you to reasonably vote down the deals that are clearly bad, e.g. those that can be found cheaper elsewhere (exact brand and model), or the offers that are widely known by everyone (e.g. free shipping on orders over $25 at Amazon)
You put your question in a "blockquote" and it got lost. I will re-post:
Also I'm still trying to understand why a freebie that is ongoing is considered a bad thing? Just because some of us knew about the freebie for a while since it was ongoing there are others that didn't and it still is a deal so why is it bad? I asked this on one of the freebies but no one answered.
As for the freebies. I think it was concluded some time ago that freebies that were once posted should not run in the contest again since they are of limited value for most of the people here. If you want to bring such freebie to everyone's attention then just find it in Buxr archives, flag it as "alive again", and it will bubble up in the queue
