There has been lately a debate going around deals that have "up to X%" discount in the title. Some of these deals have been rejected while others are approved. There are even some that got prizes. I would like to bring this topic for discussion and also voice my own opinion about such promotions.
First of all, I believe that "up to" is a marketing trick that is designed to make you feel the promotion offers value. The label is very deceiving since the store can offer a very limited number of items for sale at a discount and then label it as "huge sale".
Not like this never happens with fixed discounts. I have seen stores raise prices and then offer a 30% site-wide sale. But the opportunities to trick shoppers with "up to" sales are much greater.
I am asking you all to take "up to" sales with a grain of salt. Look into what exactly is discounted and how much the discount is. When you submit "up to" deal, offer this additional information in the description so the shoppers (and members who vote) have it there to judge if the deal is hot or not.
Here is an example of a poorly described sale:

I think deals like this don't offer enough value to stay on Buxr.
One way to improve an "up to" deal (in addition to some details in the description) is by adding extra coupons that give discount on top, or offer free shipping. Here is an example:

Please let me know where you stand regarding "up to" sales, or if you have some ideas on what the submitters can do to present them better to everyone.
