REALLY MAD

submitted on November 18, 2008 by LadyZaxxon in "Member's Lounge"
ONLY 4 PEOPLE HAVE VOTED ON MY RESTAURANT.COM DEAL FOR 80% OFF. THIS HAS BEEN A "DEAL OF THE DAY" EVERY TIME THE 80% OFF COUPON WAS RELEASED. TWICE FOR THE 80%, AND ONCE FOR 60%!!!!

YET SOME HOW ALL THE PEOPLE I VOTED FOR IN THE PAST REFUSE TO RECIPROCATE ANY LOVE. I WILL KEEP THIS MIND IN THE FUTURE.

HERE IS THE DEAL:

Well, I voted for it 4 hours before this thread, so I'm off the hook. Big Grin

However, I have to be honest. sometimes I find it irritating that certain deals seem gauranteed or expected to win, as it kinda takes some of the fun of competition away.

    Two Examples:
    80% off Restaurant.com
40% off any item from Borders

That, and when did we all become so coupon crazy anyway? It seems like it used to be that coupon codes did not win often, but then again fewer and fewer of the older members have been visiting as of late. I'm guessing their tastes in deals must have been different.

I really come here more for specific item deals than coupons or codes. Those codes are usually easy to find with a quick web engine search, as there are multiple sites dedicated to collecting them, and I think this site is slowly navigating in that direction of mostly coupons and codes.

Would any members or mods be interested in limiting the number of coupons or codes that can win per day? Say perhaps only two, which on average would account for 1/2 of the daily prizes?

I would even support a prize award drop to $5 on coupons and codes, although I doubt I'll get much member support on that one.

I think the future of coupons for the site is a separate section for coupons... But that's in 1st qtr of 09. We still haven't worked out the details.

I think the idea of sections is a good one. I also agree with Solstice about limiting the type of deal that can win deal of the day. I propose that of the four daily deals one each be given to deals in the following categories: 1)individual item 2) freebie 3) coupon code/rebate 4) printable coupon.

I think coupon codes are more valuable and versatile than saving $20 on a universal remote or a thumb drive. By definition that is a good deal. It is cheaper than retail. But how many thumb drives, memory cards, laptops, and hdtv's can one person buy?

Coupon codes on the other hand give the user choices and are useful for an array of products and services that are regularly needed: clothes, shoes, books, food, etc. Stuff you have to buy all the time and therefore have to keep coming to sites like buxr to find deals for. Not big ticket once in a blue moon items like a new laptop. This will not drive repeat users. You simply don't need to constantly shop for these items.

      That's my two cents.

On your comment about voting up by friends. It seems people would rather vote on something depending on the poster or frankly if they just feel like it. Here's an example. Same camera, brand, model and 2 win daily deals while one does not even get 1 vote.

Thanks for pointing that out Steve. This is why referring the site to your friends is so important. We have plenty visitors, but we really need more voters and community members.

Excuse me! You might want to take a look at my recent revival of a thread.

Think people...There are only 14-15 people voting on this site on a regular basis. Surprise!, but you are going to see the same names over and over again, at least until more people join.
