Quick Tips for Submitting Winning Deals

submitted on February 8, 2009 by MikeG in "Member's Lounge"
Here are some quick ideas for submitting deals that win:

1. Submit unique products that are not listed multiple times on Buxr. Submitting a 8GB flash drive that is 10 cents cheaper than the previous 5 submissions is unlikely to gain much attention.

2. Write valuable descriptions. Instead of just copying the description from the merchant, add some of your own commentary to the description as to why it is a good deal.

3. Vote for good deals submitted by others. I can not stress this enough. If you do not vote other legitimately good deals, you can not expect people to consider your deals.

4. If you really like the deal, leave a comment saying so. If you can add another reason as to why the deal is hot, that helps even more.

5. Try to be as accurate as possible when describing the deals. Nothing kills a potential up vote than a misleading deal submission. Double check price, rebates, and description.

There is obviously a lot more.. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Also products that could be seen as "must haves" that would make life easier gain allot of attention.

Here is one more tip. When submitting a 'Product' deal, make sure you add (or at least try to add) price comparison widget. Seeing the deal at higher price sold by a few other stores always helps to convince everyone that your deal is hot.

Here are some tips on how to do it:

The best way to search for a product is by the brand and model number. For example if the title is "DeLonghi MCH710T Multi-Position Ceramic Heater" try searching for "DeLonghi MCH710T" or just "MCH710T". In the search results list, don't forget to click on the matching product to highlight your selection, this will enable the Price Grabber widget on the deal page after you submit your deal (and in the preview). If your search returns several products, select the one that matches visually. If a couple of products match visually (yes, this happens sometimes) then select the one that is offered by more stores.

Another tip would be to use a high quality image when submitting. There are a couple of tricks for this:

    1. Google the product name or merchant, and then click on "images" up top. You can usually find some nice pics there.

    2. If it's a general product, search Amazon. They usually have higher quality images.

These are really good tips. There is only one thing I'd add to the list and it's simply because it's become a habit of mine -- when I see a deal with a really good price I check the reviews, even when they aren't available at the link provided by the submitter. If you know the product is a good price and has good customer reviews then you know the merchant isn't just trying to clear a product by offering it for a low price. You really should share that information.

These are really good tips for all. But, few mates are trying to push some deals with unnecessary comments which really hurts other valuable submissions/deals.

I still have the question for Admins which didn't produce any proper comment for those deals which are paying as "Editor's choice". Looks good if we have these kind but atleast let us know why it got picked as Editor choice which might give some idea to all to produce valuable deals instead of 20% Khols submissions almost twice a week

I have to admit I just posted a 20% off deal at Kohl's but I appreciate these. My last Kohl's mailer only gave me three 15% off cards so any help I can get from buxr to get a better discount is much appreciated. I get giddy when I get a 30% off!!!! Big Grin

Clover, apology if you took that comment. Unfortunately my comment was a just coincidence with your post. I saw your deal after my comment only.

      I don't mean that Kohl's 20% off is bad.
When Target discounts and any freebies considered as an on ongoing why don't we make this Kohl's coupons too make it as an ongoing.

Saw some excellent and great saving coupon and saving deals.
None of them noticed by any of us. Confused Neutral

And one more i din't understand why the activity is only on one user that too with some useless comments

    Speaking of winning deals...

Please note: This question does not apply to "Editor's Pick."

Besides having the most votes, are there any other factors involved in choosing the winners each day?

I was just wondering because I noticed some deals that had less votes than others win "Deal of the Day," while a few deals with more votes did not win.

I'm confused. Can someone explain this?

    Smile

Well, that would depend on what deals. I will say this and it may explain what you are asking - members who vote on deals but do not have 250 points don't have their votes counted towards the contest. Also, there is only one freebie spot a day that can win. There may be deals where the point count is higher on the chart, but is not higher in terms of the contest due to the wait time new members have before their point counts towards the contest.

To answer Goofy_Girl's question... winners are selected based on the number of votes, meaning the deals that receive most votes win. That said, only the votes from members who have been with Buxr for 30 days and who have earned 250 points or more will count.

Also, we award only one freebie prize per contest day, so if there is more than one freebie gaining enough votes to win that day then only the freebie with most votes will get a prize. I don't know any other exceptions to the rule, please correct me if I am wrong.

P.S. This wiki page goes over the rules in details: http://www.buxr.com/wiki/contests_prizes

I want to add this tip to the already wonderful tips that are useful here at Buxr. When filling in the description field, try to describe the deal as much as possible without using the phrase "see site for details" unless you have run out of room for the description. Use "more details available" or something similar. Also, saying "see store for details" for an 'Online Only' deal does not make sense.

Just bumping this topic again for those who have not seen it. Hope it gives everyone a few new ideas to improve your deal quality and quantity.

Two things I'd like to add, that can improve your deals if you review them right after submitting -
    1. Test the link to make sure it works as you expect and shows the right page or product. If your deal is for sale or specific items, link to the sale or relevant merchandise on the site instead of just choosing the store from the list. Links entered in the description or instruction fields will not be "clickable."
    2. Look over your text after submitting to catch any typos like wrong dates or misspelled words. I realize you may be in a hurry to get your deal submitted, but after you're done, you have plenty of time to go back and edit it to fix errors and add better images.

Something that works for me on product descriptions is copying and pasting it in a word document first. You can then copy and paste it in the desciption area on buxr. This way the "bullets" will show up also instead of inputting them one at a time. You will have to backspace on each row but this has been saving me some time on deal postings. Works for deals such as details for TV'S and electronics.
