Protocol question: mfr part and model numbers in deal title

submitted on March 1, 2010 by equipurple in "Buxr Website / Contests"
Many deals have been posed lately that include the manufacturer's part number, sometimes in addition to the model number, in the deal title.
My personal feeling is that a number is great for a description but clogs the title. Give me the item name plain and simple.
Other than technology items where the model number is the only available distinguishing feature (try searching for an HP 2.2 GHz laptop), model numbers are no help in the deal title either.

Yes - but sometimes the model number helps. Say we have a Blu ray player - if we just post it as is -- members would have to look into the deal or maybe click the link and then find more info. If the Model # is added (correctly) to the title - I think it helps.

    Just my 2 cents

Model numbers might be helpful to activate the correct pricegrabber comparison, but you are right - not in the title.

Personally, I like them in the title in most cases. Neutral

99% of the time I find them in the title as being unsightly, unnecessary, and disturbing the flow and ease of reading the title for valuable information.

If the model number is needed, the description field proves itself as being the most appropriate for those interested in knowing it. I even like having it there for some products.

The only reason not to take it out of the title is laziness in my opinion, as it requires 2-3 seconds more submission time for a slight edit, as opposed to just cutting and pasting it from another site.

I have been leaving the model / manf # in the title for purposes of helping prevent dupes. I think that I will start the practice of putting the model # in the additional information field instead. You guys have a good point that the deal title should look presentable and read well.
