Is "gift card w/ purchase" considered a rebate?

submitted on October 28, 2010 by sareece in "Buxr Website / Contests"
If something has an "e-gift card" or "gift card" with purchase is that considered a rebate or even purposeful for a deal?

I would consider it a rebate if there is a form to fill out and that you receive it at a later time. And, as such, would need to be listed under the rebate section when submitting a deal.

If it is a deal with an added gift card that you receive with the product then it's just a sweet little addition to the deal.

You should submit it as a rebate but mention in the additional instructions that the rebate comes in a form of "store credit".

Try "coupon" or "sale" and see if that will work. Then if Admin edits it, we will see how to do it! Smile

It went through, but it was just for the regular price and it said that it had the $10 e-gift card in the title Neutral

When a deal like this with a gift card is submitted as "rebate" what would be entered in the field for the rebate form link (if there's no form to fill out)?

I changed it because in the case you are referencing the answer was "no".

You are spending $49 for the toy and a $10 eGift Card, with no rebate form required.

    http://www.buxr.com/deal/furre.....card_65476

The way you originally had it listed implied that you got both for $39, which was inaccurate.

For future reference, it help if you provide Admin a link to deal you are referencing. Else you are liable to get answers that have no bearing on your actual question. Also, you have a question about a specific deal you listed it is usually better to contact us directly using the feedback system.

I had actually asked before I posted the deal... but thanks anyway.

Clearly you asked the wrong question then because it still needed fixing. Smile
However, now you know how to handle that particular scenario since I've enlightened you.

Ok I understand what you are saying, but YanBz said "You should submit it as a rebate but mention in the additional instructions that the rebate comes in a form of "store credit"." That is why I did it the way I did.

If you asked the wrong question and got the wrong answer, resulting in the wrong kind of post, then everything that went wrong was right in line, and now you know the right way to avoid doing it wrong... There, now all the wrong confusion has now been rightly removed. Big Grin

Well, all due respect, I was asking for help to play your "game." YanZb is only that gave me any kind of constructive clear cut answer. The question was not wrong, apparently there is some miscommunication some where along the lines of what is accepted and what is not, but I do know one thing for sure and I am sure it will get me blocked, but I am at the point I dont care. There is absolutely no need to be snide and disrespectful because someone asked for help, Solstice. You want to make this site great? Stick to the mission? Then it would help if you actually helped when someone asked for it and did it with out the [Edited for Content].

No reason to be nasty. I was only trying add some humor to your clearly badly-in-need-of-it day. However, since you're here, you should know that you cannot personally insult people on Buxr.

I am in no way being nasty. Trust me, I have plenty humor, but seriously. Why not just say what the problem was instead of just saying "Im right, your wrong" and keep speaking of all the ways of the wrongness... you want to teach people how to do it right don't you? I would think it would make your job a lot easier. Then you have to tell them because seriously... beating this dead horse into a pulp... I still don't know what was wrong with that submission. All that you have said is that it was "WRONG." I was not too concerned about it until you start speaking of my infinite wrongness and yeah it makes me P.O.ed.

Are you saying I cannot or should not personally insult someone? I didnt think that was a personal insult... I know how to personally insult people... I do it alot Twisted and that wasn't it.

If you look up a few comments you will see what was changed and why, also you can click on the little icon on a post next to the title on any deal post (Its shaped like a tiny notepad.), and it will show you the deal history, which includes any changes or edits. If you have further questions about the post in question, please use the feedback system and they will be addressed.

sareece, sorry for the confusion. I obviously gave you a wrong answer and the reason - I didn't see the deal you wanted to submit. If you used feedback and included a URL to your deal with your question then it would have helped matters greatly.

This particular item is offered by the store as "FurReal Go Go 3.0 + Bonus $10 eGift Card" so there is no reason to add a rebate to the deal or it does look confusing suggesting that you get both items for $39 (as Solstice rightfully noted).

The other discussion I linked (and the one that came to my mind when you asked your question) was about deals that were offered by stores as "free after store credit" and didn't have the gift card listed in the title, just the item itself, which I personally consider a marketing gimmick but nevertheless since it is widely used I felt inclined to go along and suggested the members to submit these deals in a similar fashion (e.g. using the free after rebate approach).

Now, I think we got something useful out of this discussion. I feel we should approach all deals that involve a store credit or gift card in a similar way as this one and avoid being persuaded by the marketing geniuses at CVS and Walgreens. Just list the credit/card in the title and enter the full price you have to pay at the register.

This perfectly works for me too because I am lazy and now don't have to do anything to accommodate this special case. Twisted
