Please Help - Need to Find MP3 Player or Wife's B-day

submitted on April 19, 2010 by pablos17 in "Products / Gadgets"
I need some assistance from you guys in finding a new MP3 player for my wife for her to use at the gym. I am looking for something that is maybe 4GB to 8GB and not too expensive (preferably under $100). It doesn't have to be name brand, but it does need to be durable and very easy to use.

Her birthday is next month and I have procrastinated long enough. At least now I know what she wants because she dropped the hint just this weekend.

Thanks for helping me out with this.

Years ago she had a Creative brand, no t sure which one, but hasn't used it in a while because it' s a bit hefty and the battery life is not very good. She did like the smart sound feature it had though.

Is the 5th generation iPod nano too much over budget? It weighs almost nothing (1.28 oz.) and the new FM tuner with tagging and live pause plus up to 24 hour playback and 8 GB of storage are really great.

      Or how about..

      1. The smaller & cheaper 4GB shuffle? You'd get 10 hours of battery life, and they weigh even less (.38 oz).

      2. Sony Headphone-Style Walkman MP3 Player - 12-hour battery

I use the Ipod shuffle when I go to the gym, mostly because it's so small and the battery life rocks. Since it's so cheap, buy her some things with it like Ipod accesories.

The shuffle is great for gym. Anything heavier that it will be way uncomfortable for me!

I guess I can look more into the Nano as I'm sure she would very much so like to have a screen to look at on her player. I don't necessarily need to go with the latest gen because I don't think she would even use the extra features at all. Gonna start lookin' at 4th gen Nanos to see what I can find.

Thanks to all for the replies and feel free to post any deals you may happen to run across.

Whoa! Just looked at the 3rd gen prices and they're really not much lower. I would prefer to not get an iPod as I refuse to use iTunes or Quicktime -I use alternative software for MP3/Video playback and prefer to have a simple player that would basically function as a removable drive to easily copy files onto. Sorry, I guess I'm being way too picky on this one, but all the help I can and have received is greatly appreciated.

i agree..I don't like using iTunes either. My favorite Mp3 player is the Sandisk Sansa. It's around 50 to 60 bucks, and has 24 hours of battery life! I once bought one of these from Walmart when they had them for $40 and I was very impressed. My favorite feature was the video, and I don't remember anything going wrong with it. I just decided to upgrade to an Ipod.

Well, I was going to suggest a Zune Player (Love mine)because you can download your own stuff (sync it) but I think the Sandisk Sansa is probably your best bet. Good price. Just in case your interested:

Correction to my previous post in regards to the extra shout-out that should have gone to outcastplo for providing the direct link to the 8GB Sandisk Fuze player on Amazon.

And overall, the price (w/combo items) came to $79.59 -the two combo items didn't qualify for free shipping Sad . Oh well, still a really good deal for all that I'm getting.
