Old Nintendo system sells for $13,105

submitted on February 13, 2010 by siggy38 in "Products / Gadgets"
Last week a North Carolina eBay user thought she was putting up an everyday, 80s-era Nintendo Entertainment System (together with five games) up on the popular auction site. But less than an hour after the first bid, the price was over $6,000 -- and on Wednesday, when the auction closed, the final selling price topped $13,000.

That is a pretty cool story. Makes we want to dig in my closet to see what games I have. Even though I already know they are all worthless.

I couldn't tell for sure from the ebay posting but did the seller know the game was valuable before posting? Or only learn about while the auction was active?

I would say with a stating bid of $9.99 the seller had no idea.

I don't think the seller knew what they had but the starting bid of $9.99 is a fee factor.

A lot of seller start their bids low cause of the fees ebay charges cause they know it will still sell higher than the $9.99 starting bid.

I should've kept my old system and games. I had that game when I first got a NES system. I'd have a lot of extra cash if I had kept the collectibles I had as a kid. I still never let my mom forget about getting rid of all my old comics that would now be worth a pretty penny.

Wow! I hocked mine at a resale shop back in 1998 for a mere $20-$30. Sad

My dad ran a garbage route for a little bit when I was a kid. Once the SNES came out everyone just threw away there NES and all the games. So needless to say I had a few thousand games at one point. Too bad my parents were forced to sell them for extra cash at one point. That stuff would probably be worth a lot. But I probably wouldn't sell them anyway. My husband and I now collect the stuff. We are only missing 2 game systems out of all that have been released. Wonder how much our collection is worth though....

We have a good amount of systems, but nothing near all of them but.

We have a NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii & Sega Dreamcast.

The only ones hooked up are Wii and Xbox 360. Only one played on a normal basis is the Xbox. The wii gets used about once every 2-3 months.

We only have the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and our dreamcast hooked up in our front room. But we have the original Xbox, PS2, and a 3DO in our kids room. The rest are just sitting in the closet until we have room to hook them up. I think our PSP and DSi get used more than anything though.
