New York to replace 250,000 street signs

The Federal Highway Administration said the new sign standards improve safety because they allow drivers to identify words more quickly, allowing them to swiftly bring their eyes back to the road.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who witnessed Bloomberg's blowup, wasn't shy about saying where he stood on the matter. He's considering sending a letter to the feds "but I'm trying to figure out whether to put STUPID in all caps so they'll understand it."

I have to agree that it is a waste of taxpayer money. Think of all the better things 27.5 million could be applied to.

It's so stupid anyway! 90% of drivers in NYC ard surrrounding boroughs are taxi drivers, or chauffers. They know where they are going, they don't need to read the signs.

The sad part is some of the signs are going to be switched for only one letter. Like that W 50 ST sign pictured above would be changed just because of the capital t.
