Nutmeg Recall Ruins Christmas, Teen Drug "Trend"

submitted on December 2, 2010 by HouTex in "Products / Gadgets"
Salmonella has been found in two nutmeg products -

Natural Products Co-op, is voluntarily recalling two products manufactured with non-organic nutmeg that were sold under the Frontier brand and under the Whole Foods Market brand listed below that contain nutmeg supplied by Mincing Overseas Spice Company. The nutmeg has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

This is bad news for Christmas cheer and recipes, and even worse news for teens who like to get high by smoking the stuff.

Doctors say that the ingestion of nutmeg may act as a hallucinogen vaguely similar to marijuana after 15-20 minutes. They also warn it may cause nausea, body pain, convulsions and dehydration. The teen drug trend is spreading by word of mouth, and videos of teens injecting nutmeg have appeared on Youtube.
