Newbie Question: Where are all the Daily Worst Deals?

submitted on August 5, 2010 by elefanteau in "Buxr Website / Contests"

After perusing the handy FAQ/Wiki, I noticed that every day there is a Daily Worst Deal; however, I've never seen this awarded, nor have I ever seen anyone down-vote any deals. What's the skinny? Are we just all great, amazing, impeccable deal hunters?

Someone also mentioned on a discussion topic that down-voting deals is pretty much taboo here and will not earn you any points with any of the members, i.e. they'll stop voting for your deals. Confused

If that's the case, shouldn't the little down-arrow just be eliminated because no one dares to even use it?

I personally wouldn't harbor any personal vendettas against people who down-vote my deal given that there is a valid reason, of course. In fact, if someone points out a lower price elsewhere or a better coupon code, I'd be grateful and it would make me be a better deal hunter because I'd be more meticulous in making sure that my deals are of the best savings possible.

Down votes are encouraged but for the right reasons. If you feel like a deal should be down voted, do it and explain your reason Mr Green

Really? Well deby32953 said this on the discussion topic "If you could give Buxr submitters one tip, what would it be?":

Never down vote ANY deals (even though the instructions tell you to and ask you to tell why) or the BUXR community will hate you and they don't forgive & forget easily! (I truly am sorry everyone!)

And it was plussed 6 times!

Well there is a difference here. I don't think most members are bothered by the negative voting if there is good reason. If you found somewhere else cheaper, then share the link in comments or submit your better one as a deal and then negative vote. There have been several people (not just deby) that have come along and negged for not very nice reasons, such as they didn't like it, it was expired, it isn't much of a discount and so forth. You have to keep in mind that even if it's not a good discount that if you were already buying from that store that it's better than nothing. Daily worst deals do happen. I submitted one not long after joining Buxr for a card reader. I can't even find it. Part of the reason that we don't see them anymore might be the fact that there is now a contest off award that you can use.

I see what you're saying. I still feel like I shouldn't take a chance and negatively vote on deals, in case there are people who, even though they might not say it outright, don't like being down-voted even though it would be for a valid reason.

As for this part: "You have to keep in mind that even if it's not a good discount that if you were already buying from that store that it's better than nothing.", in that case the deal wouldn't really be a "hot deal", and there's a reason why it says "hot deals" up there right? Aren't we supposed to be submitting the best of the best deals?

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm new to this site. Confused

I see what your saying. But I know there are a few stores though that rarely put out coupons. So when they do I see it as hot deal. I don't know, I think it's just a matter of opinion really.

I completely agree that those rare coupons should be considered "hot deals".

As for the products with minimal discounts, those, in my opinion, aren't.

I agree. Sometimes it becomes confusing though with small discounts. Take Walmart for example. A lot of times when they discount an item, they go from the last marked down price instead of the full price. So while it looks to be a dollar cheaper, it could be well more than that. I really don't know what to say. I agree that I think some things should be down voted but don't want to start wars with individual people. I actually have done that in the past with someone that is no longer on Buxr.

As long as everyone plays fair and looks at the deal itself and not the submitter, then cast their vote accordingly, things will be great Smile I've had a worst deal, myself. I don't take it to heart if someone down votes on my deal IF it is done for the right reason, i.e. they found a better price somewhere, it is a faulty product, bad service from the vendor that has it, etc.
