How will you be spending your New year's Eve? With many Football games being played on New Year's Day are you going out on the town or spending a quiet time at home with the Family?

My friend who is Italian told me his Grandmother made him tape a coin in his hand when he went to bed every New Year's Eve. (For Luck) I also eat Black-eyed Peas on New Year's Day (Southern thing)and cabbage.

By tradition we work in as many lucky foods as possible for the New Year's Celebrations: greens, cabbage, black eyed peas,12 grapes at midnight, pork, cakes, and will eat just about anything anyone considers lucky. Some foods are considered unlucky to eat on New Year's too. Don't eat anything that can swim backwards or can fly away with your luck.

I like that Sue! I would just like to make it until midnight to toast in the New Year! I had never heard of the 12 grapes before! Would that work if I downed a bottle of Asti Spumante? It has to have at least twelve grapes in it!

Y'all know how I LOVE to research stuff, so I had to look that one up!

Apparently the 12 grapes custom originated in Spain and spread to Latin America. On the stroke of midnight everyone eats one grape in time with the chiming of the clock. If you finish by the last chime, you'll have a fruitful year. Others say that each grape represents a month, and if you get a sour grape you can expect a turbulent month.

For those who want to travel in the new year: Run out at midnight with a packed suitcase and go around the block (after you eat your grapes, of course!).

In Peru, yellow is considered a lucky color that symbolizes hope and happiness, and people will often wear yellow underwear on New Year's Eve for luck in the new year.

I like this one --> you can collect 12 pennies (representing each month of the year) from different people before midnight and place them in a small red bag along with several grains of rice to ensure that you'll have money and food throughout the next year.

We have spent our NYE every year with the same couple. Not sure if it's good luck, but we've never had back luck and always have fun and avoid drama. After all our friends (us included) started having kids, it's much more tame than it once was but we still party it up til the break the dawn... at someone's house, and after one spouse has lost a rock-paper-scissors war and is dubbed DD.
