I was at the store last week and was told that I have to sign up or none of the sale discounts will apply to my purchases. It looks like you pretty much have no choice. Walgreens goes the way of Jewel Osco and other retailers. They finally figured they have to get something in exchange and that something is your shopping patterns and their ability to send you targeted offers.

I used to love shopping at Walgreens. The "sign up" thing with points has me not being happy. I pass right by CVS on the way to school in the morning and I don't have to calculate what I am going to get with the points.

If you're earning points for walking, you'll need to move your membership. "Walk with Walgreens" is now "Steps" under Balance Rewards. See details and the link to move or register for a new account here -
