New designs for the dollar bill?

submitted on September 19, 2010 by outcastplo313 in "Member's Lounge"
The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options.

Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website.

OK, I don't see how the "look" of a bill helps a recession. And two not to get political at all but why in the world would they have a mock up with Obama on it? Not only is he not dead he hasn't even completed a term yet!

This group's design contest did attract some attention, but the design of our money is not about "branding" or promotion. The only reason the U. S. Treasury Department ever changes the design of paper money is
the desire of the U.S. government to fight more effectively against counterfeiting by using the latest technological advances.

You can see the changes made to the new $100 bill that will be put into circulation on February 10, 2011 at . Good site to learn how to protect yourself against getting stuck with a counterfeit bill.

Changes were made to the $20 bill in 2003, the $50 was changed in 2004, the $10 got a facelift in 2006, and the $5 bill was amended in 2008. All were changed to prevent counterfeiting.

The design project was organized by "a creative strategy consultant" - sounds like an advertising gimmick to me.

The only effect that I can see for making the money look more attractive, is that people would want to keep more of it than spend it. Amused Hmmm, that's the definition of a "recession," and we've already got that.... Cry
