Mysterious Negatives...

submitted on February 2, 2012 by kdkdkdkd in "Buxr Website / Contests"
I noticed several days ago that the negative portion of my reputation jumped up 3 points and doubled. It went from 3 total negs to 6 total negs sometime in the last week or so.

However, I did a search and (unless I missed something) they are nowhere to be found on the board. I haven't recently gotten into an altercation or anything with anyone. Weird.

Anyway, I was wondering if there is a way to find out what happened?

    Somobody probably voted down one of your comments. Here is one such comment left 7 days ago:
    http://www.buxr.com/deal/210-p.....kit_104106

    Not sure why it doesn't show up on your activity page, will have to check on that later...

      I figured out why the negative vote didn't show up on your activity page. The activity page will highlight your comment (blue or red) only if you gain/lose points with your comment and that didn't happen in this particular case. There was one positive and one negative in-contest vote which canceled each other. Then there was another negative votes that was made outside of 24-hour voting window and so didn't result into point loss. The final net point gain/loss for the comment was 0.

      Your 'Member Reputation' on the other hand takes account of all votes, not only those that produce points. This is why those votes still got counted on the reputation page.

      Since I happen to be one of the people being said to hate sewing kits -- I'll take the time to explain myself and my vote. Had I seen that comment only on the first sewing kit bemicmom posted I may have just ignored the comment. Seeing the exact same comment the second time when the sewing kit deal was posted again... seemed like 'game playing' by pushing a deal back up the board for attention and votes. Just my opinion -- and I may be wrong about the reason but it is what I thought when I saw the comment twice on the two deals.

    *Before I post this, I just wanted to let the other sewing kit hater know they are welcome to jump in with their side as well. Smile

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Wow, just...wow sandyshore. I cannot believe someone can turn something positive into something so negative.
    Ok, I guess it's time to explain my votes. When bemicmom posted her 1st deal for a sewing kit, I made a quick positive comment, put it on my wishlist and figured I'd get back to it later when I was done voting, posting deals, etc.
    Unfortunately, by the time I got back to it, the deal was gone.
    So, when I saw she posted a 2nd sewing kit, I was very happy and posted a positive comment.
    I really don't think that deserves any negative votes. Geez.
    The fact that they are similar deals has nothing to do with anything. I've voted on multiple similar deals coincidentally from the same posters for many stores, including Coldwater Creek, Gap, Fashion Bug, Woman Within, Roaman's, One Stop Plus, Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc.
    In fact, sandyshore, I think I remember posting positively on some of your very similar deals. You didn't give me a negative or seem to have a problem with it back then. Smile
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    However, let me play Devil's Advocate here for a minute just to try to understand your side...

    You say I supposedly was "playing games" by "voting up" deals and by "making positive comments" for "attention" as well?

    Um, let's see...even if that were true...DUH, isn't that pretty much how BUXR works?

    You see a great deal, you vote positively, post a positive comment and maybe take advantage of the offer hoping that yes, the deal gets more attention and votes and wins because...

    IT'S A GREAT DEAL !!!

    Smile

    You may not understand or like my reason, my vote is no longer a complete mystery as the other negative votes. After you have been here on Buxr longer I may try to explain better. For now, I'm not going to pursue explaining myself any better.
