Move Over! (Nationwide Public Awareness Campaign)

submitted on September 28, 2010 by deby32953 in "Member's Lounge"
"More than 150 U.S. law enforcement officers have been killed since 1999 after being struck by vehicles along America's highways, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. To lower that deadly toll, a new coalition of traffic safety and law enforcement groups is launching a nationwide public awareness campaign to protect emergency personnel along our nation's roadsides."
"Motorists in most U.S. states can be fined for failing to slow down or change lanes when passing parked emergency vehicles."

There are good reasons for this law so please follow it and MOVE OVER!

My dad was a police officer before becoming captain and when he was just starting out, he was hit 3x by automobiles doing routine traffic stops. This was a HUGE complaint of his. He was never seriously hurt since he was always on the lookout and tried his best to JUMP out of the way but he suffered multiple contusions, bumps, bruises & stitches. He'd come home all bloodied and my mom would freak!
