Microsoft to close Jellyfish Smack Shopping

Just received an email that Microsoft (the new owner of Jellyfish) will be closing the popular reverse auction show Jellyfish Smack Shopping effective February 16. Still wondering why they did it...

Dear SmackShopping User,

Thank you for using SmackShopping and participating in the SmackShopping community over the past few years. Regrettably, we are closing down the site effective February 16, 2009. SmackShows, chats and other interactive SmackShopping services will be discontinued at this point. However, you will be able to redeem any coins you have accrued for 90 days (until May 15, 2009). At the end of 90 days the site will be brought down completely.

    Microsoft bought Jellyfish a while ago and built live.com/cashback based on the idea and (probably) technology. Smack Shopping is a show Jellyfish team was running to promote the price comparison part of the business. It was really big (popular) when it just started. I lost track of it after M$ purchased Jellyfish so I really don't know how the show was doing recently

      Possibly, as they just laid of their whole development team for MS Flight Simulator.

    That was a sad day. I have been a faithful user since 7/07. Got many incredible deals, including a slingbox pro for $150. I have the same user name on Jellyfish. Many great people, the site will be missed.

    But many users are looking towards turning to ALICE.com.
